Job Description

Position Summary
The Division of Social Science at Southern Oregon University ( SOU ) is seeking candidates for a full-time nine-month tenure-track Assistant Professor in Psychology. We are seeking applicants trained in Human Development or Developmental Psychology with a specialization in aging. Candidates should demonstrate the proper background and/or prior teaching experience for some or all of the following courses; Psychology of Aging Adult Development and Aging Statistics Research Methods Experimental Writing General Psychology or other courses related to their area of expertise. This position will support our newly developed Aging Studies concentration as part of the Healthcare Administration major. Prior teaching at the college/university level and careful documentation of teaching experience and excellence are required. Class formats will include face-to-face remote and online course delivery. Applicants should provide documented evidence of scholarly activities and demonstrate a commitment to providing mentoring quality advising and research experiences for undergraduate students. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate experience working with and mentoring students from underrepresented minorities. Preference will also be given to candidates who have applied experience working with both public and private agencies that focus on aging services. Application review will begin on February 15 2021 and end when the position fills. Southern Oregon University is a public liberal arts institution of approximately 6000 undergraduate and 500 graduate students. The surrounding area is known for cultural offerings such as the Oregon Shakespeare Festival the Ashland International Film Festival and the Britt Music Festival. The Rogue Valley is also renowned for outdoor activities such as hiking mountain biking whitewater sports snowboarding and fishing.

Physical Demands
Regular teaching activities including standing/sitting lecturing and using a computer

Duties
Professorial: Teaching scholarship professional development and service.

Minimum Qualifications
Initial appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor requires a terminal degree (or ABD ) in Aging Studies Human Development or Developmental Psychology with an emphasis on Aging Adult Development Gerontology or a closely related discipline. Applicants should be able to demonstrate evidence of at least one year of college/university level teaching which can be a combination of years of part-time teaching while the individual was a graduate student and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentorship. Applicants should be able to demonstrate a record of scholarly production or the potential for excellence in scholarship as evidenced by conference presentations peer-reviewed publications and/or evidence of a commitment to providing research experiences for undergraduate students. Applicants should be able to exhibit an understanding of health-related aging disparities and their impact on underrepresented minorities.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with and mentoring students from underrepresented minorities. Applied experience working with both public and private agencies that focus on aging services.
