The Department of Dermatology and Skin Science at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor Tenure Track.

The UBC Department of Dermatology and Skin Science is dedicated to advancing knowledge of skin and its disorders through research at all levels and to advancing patient care through education and training aiming to become an internationally recognized leader in dermatology and cutaneous sciences for the benefit of individuals and communities in British Columbia and beyond. Reporting to the Head of the UBC Department of Dermatology and Skin Science the successful candidate will lead a translational research program to detect evaluate and monitor inflammatory skin diseases and by extension inflammatory systemic diseases. The incumbent will be expected to:

  • research the life-time course of inflammatory skin diseases to inform the development of novel and effective therapies and strategies for the optimization of individualized therapies throughout the life-course;
  • generate evidence to categorize the innate and adaptive immunologic signatures of patients with inflammatory skin and systemic diseases at diagnosis and throughout the patient life cycle to guide the development of appropriate therapy;
  • support knowledge mobilization to bridge clinical observation and biology as characterized through immunophenotyping transcriptomics and clinical-pathologic correlation to inform patient diagnosis and treatment;
  • lead and establish interdisciplinary teams of co-investigators with UBC faculty including clinicians immunologists geneticist pharmacologists computer scientists and epidemiologists to accomplish these expectations.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the teaching activities of the Department as well as provide mentorship and training to undergraduate graduate and postgraduate learners. The incumbent will also be expected to provide service to the University and the broader academic and professional community. They will work collaboratively within diverse groups to bring forward strategic initiatives for the Department and the Faculty. The successful candidate will contribute to fostering an environment that promotes inclusivity and embodies values of respect integrity compassion collaboration and equity. Equity diversity inclusion and justice are essential to academic excellence as well as to fostering an inclusive community for voices that have been historically underrepresented or discouraged.

The successful candidate will hold an MD and have advanced subspecialty training in Dermatology (such as fellowship training) be eligible both for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC and to hold an appointment through the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. They will have:

  • training and expertise in complex medical dermatology and translational research including immunophenotyping;
  • a demonstrated record of novel and innovative scientific research in the diagnosis and pathogenesis of skin disease

The successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of ability in teaching and scholarly activity. They will have shown promise in mentoring addition the successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to respect diverse perspectives including perspectives in conflict with ones own and a commitment to enhancing ones own awareness knowledge and skills related to equity diversity and inclusion.

The expected salary for this position is $130000 per annum excluding independent clinical income.
