General Statement of Job
The Accountant is a professional accounting position within Financial Services. This position performs accounting processes compiles financial information reviews transactions and assists the Director of Accounting in maintaining the Universitys accounting functions and responsibilities. Job requirements include account reconciliations grant reporting vendor updates data analysis and bank reconciliations using independent judgment and discretion.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Analyzes financial information for compliance with established GASB accounting principles and University policies and objectives.
Daily monitoring and recording of bank account activity including recording self-funded insurance activity.
Responsible for monitoring daily ACH deposits and processing stop payments ACH payments and wire transfers.
Reconciles University bank accounts to general ledger accounts.
Calculates international currency exchanges for international wire payment requests prepares international drafts and reviews international expense reports for accuracy.
Assists Director of Accounting with month-end close and preparation of financial statements.
Reviews and reconciles grant budgets activity and reporting.
Performs account analysis and review. Works with campus departments to resolve discrepancies and irregularities. Prepares adjusting entries and reconciles to general ledger.
Prepares monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts.
Prepares monthly self-funded insurance claims allocation entry.
Prepares monthly sales tax return.
Prepares general ledger account entries and reviews entries made by others.
Enters new vendor information maintains and updates existing vendor records.
Assists Director of Accounting in response to requests for financial data data analysis problem resolution and clarification of issues to both external and internal stakeholders.
Prepares and assists in providing documentation for the annual audit including supporting workpapers.
Assists in the preparation of various monthly quarterly and annual reports and coordinates with campus departments as needed.
Make presentations and conducts staff training as needed.
Assists in the preparation and review of policy and procedures.
Maintains solid knowledge of the Universitys financial software.
Displays and maintains high levels of accuracy a professional demeanor and appropriate levels of confidentiality while providing excellent customer service.
Works on special projects assigned and performs other essential duties as required.
Education Experience and Licenses
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field is preferred.
Three to four years of work-related skills knowledge or experience.
