3 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
The Executive Head of Childcare Services provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the day-to-day management of three local authority-maintained nurseries.
The role is accountable for ensuring the highest standards of early education and care safeguarding and integrated service delivery across the nurseries.
It combines educational leadership with business financial and human resource management responsibilities ensuring settings are Ofsted-ready financially sustainable and aligned with national and local early years priorities.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
Lead manage and develop high-quality early years education and childcare across multiple nursery sites.
Oversee all aspects of regulatory compliance including Ofsted inspections EYFS implementation and safeguarding.
Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead ensuring all policies and practices protect the welfare of children.
Monitor child development and learning outcomes ensuring early identification and support for children with additional needs.
Direct the Senior Management Teams in strategic planning including self-evaluation and service improvement planning.
Recruit train manage and appraise a diverse team of childcare professionals in line with local authority policies.
Manage and monitor budgets in partnership with senior leaders ensuring responsible financial planning and fee collection.
Ensure health and safety compliance across all settings with keyholder responsibility and risk assessments.
Promote inclusive practices and partnership working with parents carers and multi-agency professionals.
Contribute to early intervention and prevention strategies through joint working and community engagement.
Skills/Experience:
Significant experience managing early years or childcare services within the public sector.
Proven success in leading teams across multiple settings.
Experience in preparation for and response to Ofsted inspections.
Sound financial planning and budget management experience.
Experience managing safeguarding concerns and leading safeguarding practice.
Essential Skills:
Strong leadership team development and supervisory skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Effective time management organisation and strategic planning ability.
Able to liaise confidently across professional agencies and community networks.
Strong IT literacy and ability to manage data and reporting systems.
Excellent knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and child development.
In-depth understanding of statutory childcare legislation and guidance (Children Act 2006 SEN Code of Practice Safeguarding).
Familiarity with equal opportunities inclusion and health and safety policy.
Understanding of multi-agency roles in early help and family support.

A recognised Early Years / Education qualification (Level 6 or equivalent).
A current enhanced DBS check is required.
This role includes line management of up to 49 staff across multiple nursery sites.
