Job Description

SALARY: $58686 annually

POSITION SUMMARY: The Visitor Experience Superintendent will lead the new Visitor Experience Crew in the primary corridors of Downtown South Bend in fostering a welcoming positive and memorable experience for all residents and visitors. Under the direction of the Chief Experience Officer (VPA) the VE Superintendent will collaborate closely with the Manager of Downtown Park Maintenance and Readiness as well as the Executive Director of Downtown South Bend to ensure consistent delivery of innovative and impactful resident and visitor services that focus on wayfinding placemaking and elevated hospitality.

SCHEDULE: Monday Friday 12pm-8pm; weekends and evenings based on operational needs Pay Rate: up to $59508 annually paid out bi-weekly

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

  • Directly supervises Downtown Visitor Experience Crew staff including scheduling training performance evaluations and professional development

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the team of staff responsible for:
    • Delivering exceptional resident/visitor engagement
    • Offering wayfinding and business recommendations to visitors
    • Hanging street banners to promote events experiences and celebrations
    • Providing late night accompaniment escorts to vehicles
    • Assisting with large event set ups and strikes o Maintaining the Downtown public area flowerpots
    • Manage day-to-day delivery of VPA Visitor Experience service standards and best practices to ensure excellent customer interactions (through training audits and regular staff/visitor check-ins)
    • Build and foster a team culture of engagement and continuous improvement
    • In partnership with the VPA Chief Experience Officer analyze visitor feedback and data to inform strategic decisions and improvements
    • Collaborate with VPA and DTSB leaders to work with local businesses and community stakeholders to promote South Bend as a destination

NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with administrative tasks as needed
  • Participating in community outreach and public relations efforts

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in hospitality management tourism or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in visitor services tourism hospitality industry

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Basic understanding of tourism trends and visitor service best practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish working relationships with staff supervisors and the public
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed

CERTIFICATES LICENSE REGISTRATION:

  • Valid Drivers license is required.

EQUIPMENT: Familiarity with office software (Microsoft Office Suite CRM systems)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to work in a variety of settings including outdoor environments.
  • May require lifting up to 25 pounds and standing for extended periods of time

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Provided with an office setting and will require regular outdoor work to connect with team.
  • Frequent interaction with the public city officials and community partners.
  • Will require evening and weekend hours for events and community engagements.
