Ohio Wesleyan University is a selective private undergraduate liberal arts residential institution founded in 1842 and located just 20 miles north of Columbus is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Director Office of Multicultural Student Affairs. This is a salaried full-time position withbenefits.
About the position:
The Assistant Director in the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA) serves as a key contributor to building a welcoming and supportive campus environment at Ohio Wesleyan University. This position champions various student populations through programming advocacyand educational initiatives while nurturing a campus culture that honors different backgrounds perspectives and experiences and promotes equal opportunity for all students.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Student Support and Advocacy
Provide advising counseling and consultation services to students from various backgrounds
Serve as a student advocate ensuring fair access to university programs and activities
Connect students with appropriate campus and community resources
Implement restorative practice interventions to address conflicts involving students or student communities
Programming and Educational Initiatives
Develop and facilitate educational workshops on cultural understanding and fair treatment
Oversee campus-wide awareness initiatives including speakers workshops and educational sessions
Design engagement initiatives for historically underrepresented students focusing on leadership development campus involvement and career readiness
Coordinate signature events including:
Global Major Block Party
Multicultural and Lavender End of Year Celebration
International Womens Coffee Hour
National Coming Out Day
Take Back the Night
Trans Day of Visibility
Leadership Development and Student Organization Support
Provide guidance and support to identity-based student organizations including:
Empower OWU (Womens Organization)
Prism (Queer Student Organization)
Sisters United (Womens Student Organization)
Foster coalition-building among student organizations seeking collaboration or support
Facilitate leadership development opportunities for student organization members
Bridge Program Leadership
Serve as Assistant Director for the summer Bridge program
Provide oversight for year-long follow-up support for Bridge program participants
Track program outcomes and participant success metrics
Collaboration and Campus Engagement
Develop collaborative relationships with colleagues and community partners around issues of cultural understanding and belonging
Consult with faculty and staff on creating welcoming learning and working environments
Serve on university committees including the Athletic Belonging Committee
Participate in departmental activities including meetings retreats and staff development
Administrative Responsibilities
Directly supervise 1-3 undergraduate student employees supporting programming marketing and digital content
Manage student work schedules and responsibilities
Coordinate recruitment of student interns
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people from various backgrounds
Current and comprehensive knowledge of cultural competency principles and creating fair opportunities for all students
Preferred
Masters Degree in Student Affairs Women & Gender Studies Ethnic Studies Social Work or closely related field
1-3 years of relevant experience (including Graduate Assistantships) by start date
Demonstrated success initiating and implementing programming with student groups/organizations
Direct experience advising students student programs and/or student organizations
Higher education work experience
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Canva

Salary Range: $52000-$56000 USD Per Year
