Job Description

SALARY: up to $41000 annually

POSITION SUMMARY:

This full-time role (40 hours/week 8:00 am 4:30 pm) involves EMS billing handling calls addressing billing questions and concerns ensuring the accurate collection of EMS revenue filling in for other roles as needed and sharing front desk duties to greet SBFD visitors. Strong customer service skills are essential.

SUPERVISION: Not applicable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Post payments through billing software.
  • File electronic claims for Medicare Medicaid other insurers and private insurance.
  • Document and file Lifetime Signature forms.
  • Submit refunds as per policy.
  • Answer patient responsible party and payer inquiries.
  • Disburse information to public social services insurance agencies attorneys etc. following laws and policies.
  • Run various reports.
  • Prepare and type correspondence.
  • Interpret and apply billing codes for EMS programs.
  • Coordinate collections with the legal department.
  • Obtain ambulance coding certification within one year and keep it active.
  • Perform related tasks as needed.

NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform additional duties as required.
  • Help at the front desk by greeting visitors applicants and employees.
  • Provide backup support to other administrative staff as necessary.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required along with at least one year of clerical experience preferred.
  • Experience in computing and office procedures is essential.
  • Attention to detail and numerical accuracy is crucial.
  • Specialized Position for EMS billing - Must obtain (or possess) Certified Ambulance Coder. Responsible for HIPPA compliance and ambulance coding.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY:

  • Capability to type a minimum of 45 words per minute.
  • Proficiency in interacting effectively and courteously with the public both in person and via telephone demonstrating patience with individuals who require additional assistance.
  • Background in insurance or medical billing is advantageous.
  • Expertise in medical service billing including Medicare Medicaid Blue Cross Insurance policies and procedures for medical billing services is preferred.
  • Spanish language fluency is favored.

CERTIFICATES LICENSE REGISTRATION:

Certified Ambulance Coder status is preferred or shall be acquired within 12 months.

EQUIPMENT:

Desktop computer telephone copier scanner 10-key adding machines and fax machines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Essential tasks require frequent sitting walking talking or listening. Occasionally involves using hands reaching and lifting up to 15 pounds. Vision and focus adjustment are necessary. Some filing may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work occurs in an office with moderate temperatures and typically quiet to moderate noise levels.
