Job Description

Job Title: Elementary Interventionist Wage/ Status: Exempt

Reports to:PYP Principal HR Revised: January 2025

Department: PYP

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY

The Elementary Interventionist is responsible for providing targeted instruction developing curriculum and implementing programming for students identified as at-risk. This role supports both Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions within the MTSS/RTI framework as well as Tier 1 instructional coaching for classroom teachers in math and reading. The Interventionist also plays a key role in establishing the foundation for the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework collaborating with teachers to develop individualized intervention plans and designing systems to address learning gaps and support struggling learners.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
  • State certification in related subject areas.
  • Must have completed the Texas Reading Academy.
  • Demonstrate competency in subject areas.
  • Demonstrate competency in IB Curriculum and Instruction preferred.
  • Completion and successful results of the state-required fingerprinting and criminal background check is required.
  • Ability to comply with all TEA regulations applicable federal state and local laws school policies and standards of the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
  • Is legally able to work in the United States.

Experience:

  • Prior reading intervention experience preferred.
  • Grades K-6 experience preferred.
  • Two (2) plus years of experience in an educational or IB environment desirable

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Shares a strong commitment to the success of the mission goals and objectives of the school and to be willing to spend the time and effort required to achieve the goals and objectives in the classroom and in the school as a whole.
  • Designs authentic learning experiences aligned with the IB Framework.
  • Provides high quality instruction to individual students and small groups.
  • Provides pull-out tutoring for at risk students on an ongoing basis.
  • Instructs students within a constructivist and inquiry-based pedagogy aligned with the IB Framework.
  • Differentiates learning to ensure depth of learning for all students.
  • Assesses students through formative and summative assessment tools and utilizes formative and summative data to improve learning for all students.
  • Meets with grade level teams to identify students needs.
  • Develops individualized intervention plans to support student success.
  • Monitors and modifies individualized intervention plans to meet the ongoing needs of students.
  • Attends staff meetings training etc. as deemed by the Head of School.
  • Monitors and supports IB framework in classrooms.
  • Uses data to provide instruction to students and to bring their skills to grade-level.
  • Collaborates with teachers administrators and families to help identify best practices for individuals and small groups of students
  • Uses identified research-based interventions focuses specifically on individual student needs.
  • Maintains data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progress.
  • Provides data to school teams and participates in decisions about student progress.
  • Communicates with teachers administration and families regarding student progress.
  • Assists with identifying students for placement in intervention groups.
  • Participates in meetings with teachers administration and families to discuss student placement and progress.
  • Provides diagnostic assessments for students as needed.
  • Provides input for program development.

OTHER DUTIES

Other duties may be assigned at any time by the Head of School Principal or Assistant Principal.

EVALUATION

The performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the PYP Principal.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment.

Posture: Frequent standing kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting.

Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 lbs.); may lift and move equipment; occasional physical restraint of students to control behavior.

Environment: Work inside may work outside.

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; may work prolonged or irregular hours.
