POSITION SUMMARYThe Ancillary Aide (Student Support) plays a vital role in fostering a safe inclusive and supportive school environment. This position supports students behavioral and social-emotional development through direct engagement supervision and intervention. The ancillary aide collaborates with staff to implement behavior plans facilitate SEL activities and assist with school operations such as in-school suspension (ISS) and student supervision.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESSupport the implementation of school-wide SEL programs and behavior management strategies.Motivate and support positive student behavior in a way that promotes a positive school culture and climate.Assist with In-School Suspension (ISS) as needed ensuring a structured and supportive environment.Supervise various areas of the school building including hallways cafeteria and other common areas.Escort students between classes or to designated areas as needed.Assist teachers with student transitions. Provide one-on-one or small group SEL support to students.Assist with the implementation and monitoring of individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs)/student contracts.Participate in crisis intervention and de-escalation efforts.Facilitate SEL lessons and activities that promote emotional regulation empathy and positive relationships.Maintain accurate documentation of student behavior and progress.Collaborate with parents teachers counselors and administrators to support student success.Model a commitment to equity inclusion and culturally responsive practices.Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Be available to the students and to the parents for education-related purposes when required.Adhere to district and campus procedures.Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).Maintain and improve professional competence.Regularly participate in district staff development.Regularly attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees.Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues.Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students parents and community members.Maintain regular attendance.Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or equivalent required; college hours or associate degree preferred.Experience working in a school setting with diverse populations: personnel students parents and other stakeholders.Experience working with children or adolescents in educational or behavioral support settings.Training in trauma-informed practices restorative justice or crisis prevention/intervention preferred.Knowledge of SEL framework and behavior management techniques preferred.
OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTSAbility to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus; judge distance (close and distant); reach with arms extended and use hands.Ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds including but not limited to: books paper and instructional materials/supplies. This position requires frequent standing walking sitting bending kneeling and/or the ability to be mobile. This position may require prolonged or irregular hours. Maintain emotional control under stress. Ability to travel throughout the district and city as needed by means of personal/private or public transportation in compliance with the states department of motor vehicle and/or public transportation laws.Ability to communicate effectively in English both written and oral forms with all levels of management both internal and external to the district.
