Anticipated Opening for 2025-2026 School Year

School-Media Specialist Building: Grant Middle School

The position of a Media Specialist is now open. Please note the job description is attached. This is a 195 days at 7.5 hours per day total of 1462.5 hours per year position as per salary schedule. Persons applying for this position must have a minimum of a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate; they must have or be willing to obtain a State of Ohio Department of Education Teacher Aide Permit along with the Highly Qualified Requirement of the No Child Left Behind.

JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE:

Middle School Media Specialist

RESPONSIBLE TO:

Building Principal

DEPARTMENT:

Aides

CLASSIFICATION:

LENGTH OF CONTRACT:

Nine-month contract - 195 days at 7.5 hours per day

GENERAL DUTIES:

Coordinate and deliver library and computer lab services

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have or be willing to obtain a State of Ohio Department of Education Teacher Aide Permit along with the Highly Qualified Requirement of the No Child Left Behind.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains a schedule approved by the building principal that makes provision for the following.
    1. 30-40 minutes per week of library activities for each class in the building. Library activities include checking in/out books reading to students assisting with book selections.
    2. 30-40minutes per week of facilitation of online learning for each class in the building. This schedule should reflect a maximum block of 40 min per period.
  • Plans conducts and supervises activities in the library that involve students in the acquisition of library skills and the use and enjoyment of all types of media.
  • Functions as a resource person in assisting teachers with instructional activities which involve the use of media of all types.
  • Selects and requisitions according to guidelines established by the Coordinator of Media Services print and non-print materials for the library collection.
  • Manages instructional technology in the building and assists teachers with the use of equipment.
  • Repairs and maintains all print materials.
  • Evaluates collections for materials to be acquired as well as materials to be discarded or replaced.
  • Organizes all materials for easy access convenient use and collection accountability.
  • Maintains adequate supplies for the library operations and the efficient and continuous operation of all instructional technology. Recommends the repair/replacement of equipment.
  • publicize the availability of resources (materials equipment services programs etc.) to teachers as well as children.
  • Conducts periodic inventories of materials and equipment.
  • Attends in-service meetings and participates in other activities instigated by the Coordinator of Media Services to assist job performance and/or to enhance media services in the building or throughout the school district.
  • Maintains card catalogs shelf list files and other library records for accuracy and for purposes of ready access to all materials.
  • Maintains an attractive and positive climate in the appearance and functioning of the library.
  • Performs all responsibilities with a high degree of professionalism in a friendly cooperative and positive manner.
  • Help students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments.
  • Presents and discusses materials with the class studying a particular topic on the invitation of the teacher.
  • Readies materials for reserve on teachers request.
  • Submit tickets for broken Chromebook to the tech department.
  • Keep a list of chrome carts and check-out lists.
  • Performs other related duties and tasks as assigned by the Building Principal/Coordinator of Media Services/Director of Human Resources and School Operations.
