SCOPE:
Our Brazers are responsible for soldering parts together. This includes assembling pieces applying flux soldering using machines or hand tools inspecting parts and reworking parts as necessary. We are looking for individuals with prior experience in brazing the willingness to learn and the ability to perform repetitive work in a safe manner.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reads work orders and blueprints to determine assembly and brazing procedures.
- Engages in training and retains information Including machine uses and processes and temperature settings.
- Align and clamp workpieces together using rules squares or hand tools or position items in fixtures jigs or vises.
- Brush flux onto joints of workpieces or dip braze rods into flux to prevent oxidation of metal.
- Melt and apply solder along adjoining edges of workpieces to solder joints using soldering irons gas torches or electric-ultrasonic equipment.
- Clean workpieces to remove direct or excess acid using chemical solutions files wire brushes or grinders.
- Performs pressure and leak testing identifying causes of defects and determining solution.
- Rework parts as necessary by guiding torches and rods along joints of workpieces to heat them to brazing temperature melt braze alloys and bond workpieces together.
- Turn valves to start flow of gases and light flames and adjust valves to obtain desired colors and sizes of flames.
- Melt and apply solder to fill holes indentations or seams of fabricated metal products using soldering equipment.
- Heat soldering irons or workpieces to specified temperatures for soldering using gas and flames or electric current.
EDUCATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

- Ability to perform work in a safe manner.
- Ability to perform repeated physical tasks.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
- Ability to learn brazing procedures.
- Prior knowledge of brazing or experience preferred.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
CRITICAL COMPETENCIES-- As follows are the measurable or observable knowledge skills abilities and behaviors critical to successful job performance:
- Technical knowledge:
- Understanding the different types of brazing processes (e.g. torch brazing furnace brazing induction brazing)
- Knowledge of different base metals and their compatibility with various brazing filler metals
- Ability to select the appropriate flux for the specific brazing application
- Understanding of capillary action and how it affects joint strength
- Familiarity with joint design principles for optimal braze penetration
- Practical skills:
- Precise heat control using a torch or other heating method to achieve the correct brazing temperature
- Proper surface preparation techniques like cleaning degreasing and oxide removal
- Skillful manipulation of filler metal to ensure proper flow into the joint
- Ability to accurately position and fixturing of components before brazing
- Inspection of brazed joints for defects like porosity cracks or incomplete penetration
- Safety awareness:
- Understanding the hazards associated with brazing including hot surfaces fumes and potential fire risks
- Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) like gloves eye protection and respiratory protection
- Awareness of ventilation requirements and exhaust systems to remove fumes
- Quality control:
- Adherence to established quality standards and procedures
- Visual inspection of brazed joints to identify any defects
- Ability to perform destructive or non-destructive testing (if required) to verify joint integrity
