Job Schedule: 9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days totaling 80 hours worked and have every other Friday off
Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking a Specialist Tool Design Engineer to join our growing facility in Huntsville AL. Manual and semi-automated tooling such as jigs fixtures molds mandrels and lifting devices are all required in the fabrication and assembly of solid fuel rocket this role the selected individual will be responsible for:
- Working with cross functional teams define tool requirements
- Designing required tooling
- Conducting design reviews with cross functional teams to obtain approval of tool designs
- Oversight of procurement/fabrication of tooling
- Working with manufacturing engineers to perform functional evaluations and acceptance of the tooling
- Performing liaison support for tool maintenance by identification of tool problems design of repairs and implementation of modifications
Essential Functions:
- Design using PTC Creo and Windchill
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to obtain a US security clearance
- Less than 5% travel required
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree and minimum 4 years of prior mechanical design engineering experience. Graduate Degree and up to 2 years of prior mechanical design engineering lieu of a degree minimum of 8 years of prior mechanical design engineering experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- 2 years of experience in the design of tooling to support manufacturing
- 2 years of experience using a solid modeling program such as Unigraphics NX Pro-Engineer AutoCAD Inventor CATIA CREO or Solid Works
- Existing clearance is a plus
- Experience working in the defense industry is a plus
- Experience in Unigraphics NX is a plus
- Fabrication experience is a plus
- Composite Wind tool design and/or fabrication experience is a plus
- Compression Mold tool design and/or fabrication experience is a plus
