Position is eligible for degree longevity technology stipend consistent with the Non-Affiliated Administrator contract addendum A.
General Summary:
The Technology Technician position will be responsible for supporting technology hardware/software/networking configuration installation maintenance troubleshooting repair and documentation of devices servers and systems in use throughout the district.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Effectively professionally and respectfully represents technology staff members teams and their services to TCAPS staff.
- Works closely with the Director of Technology Systems to support technology district-wide.
- Maintains local and wide area networking equipment and configurations.
- Configure and maintain local and wide area networking equipment configurations.
- Maintain and support district servers desktop and system software as well as user applications.
- Builds relationships with internal staff as well as regional service providers including Northwest Education Services and Northwestern Michigan College.
- Provides support for all Technology products and services. Support may include answering questions troubleshooting problems researching solutions and new technologies teaching or instructing staff regarding software or hardware functionality and communicating policy.
- Determines the most effective manner to resolve customers technical issues. Engages in research and in-depth troubleshooting to resolve technical issues. Consult with technology department staff when necessary.
- Records required customer and problem information in our work order system.
- Responsible for assisting with disaster planning backups and emergency response.
- Verifies that suggested solutions effectively resolve the users problems through verbal and/or email follow-up.
- Elevates complex and/or high-priority problems to the appropriate support groups for resolution.
- Develops and maintains documentation for all technological systems within their assigned locations.
- Workes in multiple locations throughout the district.
- Maintains acceptable and reliable attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:
- Associates degree or equivalent with previous experience and/or training with a variety of hardware software and networking devices; or other equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
- Excellent organizational skills with emphasis on details and time management.
- Ability to communicate effectively including listening speaking and writing skills.
- Advanced knowledge of troubleshooting techniques on PC networking and networking protocols including TCP/IP.
- Experience with scripting (ie AutoIT or equivalent) and server maintenance is highly desired.
- Experience with or willingness to learn low voltage wiring.
- Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to research solutions or information regarding technical issues.
- Ability to read analyze and interpret information.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting is imperative.
- Dependable reliable and protective of sensitive/confidential information.
- Ability to reach stoop kneel crouch and utilize various tools involved in the installation of computer equipment and properly operate required office equipment such as a personal computer fax machine copier and the like.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in high stress or conflict situations.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Must be able to report on a regular and consistent basis to the office.
- Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
- Duties include frequent walking and physical activity as well as use of hands and arms for signaling and light lifting/carrying.
- Must have the ability to move about the building which includes bending pushing/pulling lifting twisting climbing stooping or crouching to complete work-related tasks.
- Regular use of computer and other office equipment (printer/copy machine etc.)
- The ability to listen and effectively communicate both written and orally information and ideas to a diverse population.
- Ability to effectively discern information and formulate appropriate action(s).
- Ability to critically think and provide appropriate solutions.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in high stress or conflict situations.
- Ability to move and transport items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must hold a valid drivers license and have the ability to drive to various locations throughout the district.
Environmental Conditions:
This position works in both indoor and outdoor environments with travel throughout the district. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers filing cabinets and fax machines. Duties may be completed in cold and hot temperatures as well as working with machines/equipment including work on ladders slippery and/or uneven surfaces.
Work Schedules:
Must be available for overtime and/or emergency overtime before and/or after regular scheduled workday when necessary.
