Job Description

Responsible for hiring retention development delegation collaboration and management of assistant directors managers of advising academic advisors program coordinators graduate assistants and undergraduate student (peer) advisors. Lead support motivate and formally assess the performance of team to achieve multiple campus and off-campus stakeholders satisfaction. Possess the ability to quickly pivot to modify any processes or personnel of concern.

Supervise the student services that each student requires and receives via multiple face-to-face individual and group advising appointments over the length of their 12-15 quarter undergraduate matriculation. At any one time there are 2300 business majors prospective business majors and business minors; this translates into teams 5000 documented face-to-face individual and group advising appointments each academic year. Further a much larger range of strategic targeted formal electronic communication and record keeping is required. Through consistent sustained services and touch points students are empowered to grow personally and professionally through coaching mentoring and proactive/intrusive advising; department serves to formally and informally advocate for students generally and specifically with targeted and at-risk populations.

Historically and moving forward this position creates oversees and delivers the entire portfolio of the undergraduate student experience.

This position will serve on or delegate staff to serve on campus or college committees and participate in the universitys Undergraduate Council Academic Standards undergraduate student services strategic planning recommendation development and management processes.

Essential Functions:

Advising/Coaching

  • Time is primarily reserved for undergraduate students with complex advising and coaching needs.
  • Oversee and provide student services for four-year academic and co-curriculum for undergraduate business majors and minors at the Daniels College of Business during four academic quarters per year.
  • Ensure all students are informed of relevant academic and administration information in a timely manner.
  • Field and direct responses to student concerns and issues regarding course schedules degree completion and/or registration procedures utilizing strong problem-solving and registration database-solving skills to meet student needs.
  • Plan and assist eight specific curricular areas within Daniels with respect to course scheduling and forecasting for purposes of strategic enrollment management.
  • Display agility assimilation and dissemination of yearly 4-year curriculum changes/iterations implemented by the Daniels College of Business and multiple units across campus.

Policy/Procedure

  • Assist college and university units with academic processes including graduation certifications preliminary graduation reviews course substitutions and transfer credit evaluation course scheduling extensions and petitions to various academic units and academic deficiency notification.
  • Assure compliance with federal guidelines accreditations DU and Daniels academic standards.

Program Management

  • As the leader of the student services team this position will design manage coordinate plan and execute student services activities for undergraduate students as needed.
  • Communication to stakeholders development of necessary printed materials and management of overall execution of activities related to student services.
  • Manage and support finances and contracts related to the operational and logistical delivery of student services programs.
  • Develop assessment tools to evaluate programs offerings and delivery of activities.
  • Provide leadership in working with associate/assistant deans departmental chairs school directors university offices staff and faculty to ensure a seamless experience for students.
  • This position is accountable to all stakeholders.

Strategy:

  • Serve on campus or college committees as requested.
  • Participate in strategic planning development and management process in support of undergraduate student services.
  • Management:
  • Hire retain develop delegate and ensure collaboration among assistant directors managers of advising academic advisors program coordinators graduate assistants and undergraduate student (peer) advisors. Design and perform student services redundancies in entire department as well as train team members on their execution and value.

Other:

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the associate dean of Daniels Undergraduate Programs.
  • Oversee professional development of staff in functional student services specialty area aligned with the Daniels and university mission which include but are not limited to inclusive excellence case competitions panel discussions employer relations data analysis targeted populations community outreach Microsoft and other professional certifications.
  • Serve on campus or college committees as requested. Participate in strategic planning development and management process in support of undergraduate student services.
  • Professional development through industry organizations (e.g. NACADA NACE) as well as DUGP in-house opportunities.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Strong organizational planning and program development abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one small group and large group situations to customers clients and other constituents of the college and university.
  • Leadership ability to collaborate with departments within Daniels and with all student services and administrative units across campus.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage lead and facilitate teams.
  • Clearly exhibit cross-cultural sensitivity and emotional intelligence in all facets of interaction with myriad constituencies.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs
  • Expert in SCT Banner for which efficiencies are required for multiple keystrokes quarterly per student.
  • Strong systems and processing knowledge with respect to general business and academic operations.
  • Work occasional evenings and weekends as related to new/transfer/parent orientation commencement secondary admission
  • Daniels Professional Development Programs and college and university events.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters degree in education or associated discipline.
  • 10-12 years professional experience in multiple aspects of higher education including deep understanding of student life-cycle and relationship management in a college/university setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in managing the entire undergraduate student life-cycle.
  • 15-20 years professional experience in multiple settings in higher education including student life-cycle and relationship management in a college/university setting.
  • Proven record of development and deployment of innovative and effective student services initiates based on industry best practices.
  • Author industry publications

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. In accordance with the Universitys flexible work policy this position is eligible to be considered for partial remote work. Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 12.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $85000-$95000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
