UVA Dine is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Food Service Supervisor to oversee daily operations and lead a team of food service workers at the Rising Roll Cafe on the University of Virginia grounds. The Food Service Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring high standards of food quality customer service and cleanliness while maintaining efficient service flow during meal periods at the cafe. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills a proactive approach and a commitment to creating a positive dining experience.

  • Location: 1605 Jefferson Park Ave Charlottesville VA
  • Start Date: August 14 2025
  • Shift: 7:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • Hourly Rate: $18

Job Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct the daily activities of food service workers at theRising Roll Cafe including cooks lead food service workers and general utility workers.
  • Train new employees on proper food handling preparation service standards and safety procedures specific to the cafes operations.
  • Oversee meal service ensuring food is prepared displayed and served according to established recipes quality standards and portion control for the Rising Roll Cafe offerings.
  • Monitor inventory levels of food and supplies assist with ordering and ensure proper storage to minimize waste.
  • Maintain a clean organized and safe work environment ensuring adherence to all sanitation and HACCP guidelines.
  • Address customer inquiries feedback and concerns promptly and professionally resolving issues to ensure customer satisfaction within the cafe setting.
  • Assist in scheduling staff shifts to ensure adequate coverage and efficient operations.
  • Conduct regular inspections of dining and kitchen areas to ensure cleanliness organization and compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Handle cash and complete daily reports as required.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment providing coaching and feedback to staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all UVA Dine and Aramark policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associates degree in Hospitality Management or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in food service with at least 1 year in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Strong knowledge of food service operations including food preparation service and sanitation.
  • Proven ability to lead motivate and train a team.
  • Excellent communication interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and POS systems.
  • ServSafe certification required.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings weekends and holidays.
  • Customer-focused and results-oriented.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a kitchen and dining environment which may be hot noisy and require exposure to various temperatures.
  • Ability to bend stoop and reach as needed.
