The Role of the Section Engineer Works Services
This role will specialise in efficient management of the Works Services and utilities plant and site infrastructure for the Rotherham site.
They are expected to ensure continuous improvement in the standards of Engineering Health & Safety and environmental performance such that business objectives are met. They must also keep abreast of technical developments to ensure improvements to both engineering and operational performance are optimised.
The department is responsible for the operation of business-critical assets Steam Boilerplant Water treatment plants River water abstraction plant Demin water plant and Compressed air generation as well as providing maintenance services to other site utilities such as Natural Gas Oxygen Towns and Treated water.
They will be part of the wider Works Services team responsible for resolving breakdowns ensuring essential maintenance is carried out and improving operational efficiency across all the services within the teams areas of influence.
As part of this role you will:
Provide Technical and Engineering expertise to resolve plant engineering problems particularly around Steam water and compressed air.
Be responsible for the management of various plant facilities.
Devise and develop planned maintenance and inspection schedules and ensure that they are implemented to meet statutory quality and engineering requirements.
Determine organise and direct the engineering resources needed to satisfy the operational and engineering requirements of the Works Services Department in order to optimise and improve availability costs and performance.
Ensure that the engineering teams specialist contractors and plant operators comply with all statutory health safety and environmental requirements.
Develop long term strategic plant replacement and improvement strategies.
Identify the training and development requirements within the Department for the engineering team to provide a safety conscious and technically competent workforce.
Manage specialist contractors providing both on and off-site maintenance services refurbishment and modifications. Ensure that such contractors are competent and adequately informed of the job requirements arrange permits to work agree safety procedures and ensure such requirements are adhered to.
This role is the Department responsible person for Working at Height.
Working arrangements are normally Monday to Friday 7.30am to 3.30pm with some flexibility as required.
On rare occasions Section Engineers may be called upon to assist with breakdowns and incidents outside normal working hours on a best endeavours basis.
Required of the Section Engineer Works Services
Preferably educated to degree level but with a minimum of HNC in Mechanical / Electrical / Chemical Engineering.
High level of technical expertise demonstrated by suitable experience in a related technical role.
Practitioner experience in Steam generation Compressed air Water services and piped gas services would be required or the ability to quickly gain the necessary expertise where gaps exist.
Experience of the requirements and application of L8 Control of Legionella in water systems would be beneficial.
The job holder will be required to deliver effective man management and leadership skills to motivate a multi skilled flexible workforce and provide effective communications. They must be able to devise and co-ordinate complex and interactive plans and schedules to meet constantly changing circumstances.
A good knowledge of Health and Safety and Environment legislation is desirable particularly around Services and Utilities with an ability to implement the requirements as part of departmental operations.
The Working Pattern of the Section Engineer Works Services
This is a Monday to Friday role 8am - 4pm.
