Here is what you will be doing:
Supports the establishment and continuous improvement of tissue and organ donation programs in Ontario health care facilities through the provision of education engaging in positive stakeholder relationships and reinforcing a positive tissue and organ donation culture through the collection and reporting of data and other performance measures to assess the efficacy of the programs and implement plans for improvement. In addition to these roles the Specialist Hospital Development participates in advancing internal and external organ and tissue donation processes. The Specialist Hospital Development utilizes expert knowledge in the field of organ and tissue donation to support the development of hospital programming to support optimal donation outcomes and acts as a change agent through effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Here is what you will be doing:
Creates builds and maintains strong respectful relationships external stakeholders such as physicians nurses and allied health in order to achieve optimal program adoption and donation results as evidenced by achieving targets of key publicly reported metrics targets.
Act as a lead and develop subject matter expertise in clinical and/or health system areas of interest.
Liaises with internal and external stakeholders for special clinical cases to ensure positive donation outcomes.
Acts as a lead to establish organ and tissue donation processes for program implementation as requested by individual hospitals.
Providing expert strategic advice acts as a lead and mentor for a team of Specialists Organ and Tissue Donation to develop quality improvement programs and operational plans within the portfolio of Hospital Development.
Responsible for supporting the development implementation evaluation and continuous improvement of organ and tissue donation programs in Ontario health care facilities by employing effective communication planning decision making conflict resolution and team-building skills. This includes conducting needs assessments and surveys performing literature reviews and environmental scans developing education and evaluation tools and contributing to presentations and publications relating to the projects.
Contributes to the strategic planning design implementation and oversight of organ and tissue donation programs across the province.
Utilizes superior client services skills to develop and maintain relationships with physicians and nurses and allied health to achieve optimal results and program adoption.
Identifies resolves and escalates as required issues and risks in a timely manner
Uses expert knowledge to collaborate with internal and external committees and working groups to guide in the development revision and implementation of policies and procedures order sets clinical standards of care clinical pathways and education to support the adoption of leading practices and new innovations in donation.
Uses principles of adult education to develop deliver and evaluate education consistent with strategic directions and leading practices.
Develops and disseminates leading practice tools policies procedures and guidelines as it relates to organ and tissue donation to promote optimal donation outcomes.
Works collaboratively with other OTDCs engaged in hospital development activities in the province and develops materials for their use to influence the practice of healthcare professionals.
Debriefs and provides guidance to PRC staff once a new process has been implemented and provide follow-up with the staff.
Collects reports and analyzes data and other performance measures to assess the efficacy of the hospitals organ and tissue strategies and makes suggestions for improvement.
Interprets and effectively communicates hospital specific information and broader information/data and research with the hospitals Organ and Tissue Donation Committee related policy review committees and hospital stakeholders to improve program performance and increase organ and tissue donations.
Develops plans and deliverables and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to implement and evaluate quality improvement programs.
Collects research analyzes and makes recommendations regarding strategic initiatives to improve organ and/or tissue performance. May refer to existing practices at other tissue and organ procurement organizations.
Submits abstracts for papers/posters or oral presentations at peer review conferences.
Manage multiple projects and operational tasks concurrently. Along with assisting other departments in projects as needed. Demonstrating and maintaining a positive and creative influence in keeping project momentum moving forward.

Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience
Nursing Diploma and/or Bachelor of Science in Nursing required and;
Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required
Minimum of four (4) years of working experience in organ donation Critical Care or Emergency Department or a combination of equivalent experience and education
Knowledge and Skills
Able to work regular day shifts with the flexibility to start as early as 7:00am or as late as 11:00pm with advanced notice and be able to travel overnight on average of once a month and travel on-site to hospitals throughout the week
Proven ability to be self-directed and able to function collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
Demonstrated strengths in the areas of project management quality improvement and education in a results-oriented environment with a proven ability to use data and consensus documents to influence performance and practice.
Demonstrated well-developed influencing negotiating or counselling skills that influence or cause behavioral change to reconcile diverse viewpoints amongst different constituencies inside or outside the organization.
Demonstrated compassion and dedication with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated strong understanding of the process flow related to a health care environment.
Requires knowledge of the donation process and principles of adult education.
Proven ability to rapidly integrate and adapt to new information and change previously established plans for both immediate action and long-term goals.
Knowledge of the Gift of Life Act and Accreditation Canada Standards.
A valid G class drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
Strong working knowledge of MS Office software applications required.
