The role:

The Community Strengthening Officer (CSO) sits within the Community Strengthening team which exists to deliver on Councils commitment to social equity inclusion accessibility participation health and wellbeing and sense of belonging for the Whitehorse community. The team has a particular focus on communities and population groups experiencing inequity and disadvantage as identified in the Councils Integrated Planning Framework. The Community Strengthening team works across a range of portfolios such as community grants volunteering disability reconciliation multicultural multifaith health and wellbeing family violence prevention gender equality and LGBTIQA.

About you:

The position will take responsibility for the following key responsibilities objectives and strategies and where required will also support the team members to deliver their positional responsibilities and objectives.

  • A tertiary degree/qualification in community development human and/ or social sciences or a related field together with demonstrated relevant experience in the sector is preferrable.
  • Well established knowledge and understanding of community development principles practices and trends with a focus on diversity and inclusion to achieve equitable community outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to analyse data to produce Council reports and undertake program evaluations.
  • Ability to facilitate and influence thinking on social issues and the ability to work collaboratively and establish effective working relationships
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills with the ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships and partnerships with diverse internal and external stakeholders including individuals of varying abilities cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Proven project management capability with the specific ability to develop plan implement and continuously improve policies and strategies to strengthen communities and deliver on community development outcomes on time and within budget.
  • Experience in grant making and proficiency with the SmartyGrants grant making platform is preferrable.
  • Demonstrated commitment to our organisational values and behaviours of Collaboration Respect Excellence Accountability and Trust.
