POSITION OVERVIEW The EVSC seeks exceptional individuals who have demonstrated an in-depth knowledge of reading/literacy processes acquisition assessment evaluation and instruction with at least four years of teaching experience. The primary role of the reading/literacy specialist is to provide high-quality instruction as an interventionist with students who are experiencing difficulties with reading and writing. The reading/ literacy specialist will serve as a model of best practice literacy instruction while serving in the interventionist role. The reading/literacy specialist will be involved in assessing the literacy learning of students through administering and interpreting diagnostic reading assessments assisting in data analysis and participating in decision-making about student grouping and movement across tiers as a part of the MTSS team. Reading/literacy specialists must possess the essential skills and competencies necessary to build the capacity of the schools teachers to meet the literacy needs of all reading/literacy specialist will collaborate mentor and model how to use data incorporate best practices in literacy instruction and engagement strategies to enhance instructional practice at the classroom level and support school improvement measures within the candidates will be student-centered collaborative and have the skills necessary to be a catalyst for change as an integral part of a high-performing leadership team under the direction of the building principal. Although reading/literacy specialists need to have an understanding of adult learning and leadership skills to effectively support teachers in the schools where they work their primary role is an instructional one and will therefore not be part of the formal coaching structure of the building. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned. Works regularly with the District ELA Director(s) to align literacy practices and increase the effectiveness of school literacy efforts. Actively participates in professional growth and development to stay abreast of current literacy research through continuing education educational seminars workshops conferences membership in professional organizations and attendance at corporation-sponsored in-services and district PLCs. May be asked to assist with job-embedded professional development for teachers through mentoring modeling or participating in professional learning communities. Assists in planning and facilitating interactive professional learning opportunities for individuals and groups in collaboration with administrators teachers and coaches. Creates an environment of trust and respect through all interactions with staff to support growth-oriented professional relationships. Teaches corporation-approved curriculum while creating a classroom and total school environment that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated. Employs a variety of instructional techniques instructional media and performance assessments which guide the learning process toward academic achievement and curriculum goals. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons curricular units and projects and communicates these objectives to the students. Assesses the accomplishments of students in a variety of ways regularly and provides progress reports as required. Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law corporation policy and administrative regulations. Administers and analyzes standardized testing data and adjusts instructional strategies as needed to maximize the probability of student success. Recognizes the special needs of students with learning disabilities seeks the assistance of corporation specialists as needed and/or required and makes appropriate individualized physical and instructional accommodations within the classroom. May serve on building-level and corporation-wide committees e.g. curriculum resource adoption curriculum writing test analysis. Builds effective relationships with parents and students through regular communication and is available to students and parents for education-related purposes e.g. open house conferences extra-curricular activities. Teaches students to work collaboratively to solve problems and to think logically and creatively. Completes other duties as assigned. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of School Trustees policies. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises students student aides paraprofessionals and parent volunteers. CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS: Indiana teaching certification in the relevant curriculum areas. Must complete required professional development/courses to obtain a Reading Certificate/License or Masters Degree in Literacy Instruction. |
