Primary Purpose of Position:
This position supervises the daily operation safety and security of House in the Horseshoe State Historic Site. In addition it manages the Endor Iron Furnace site. House in the Horseshoe State Historic Site includes the historic Alston House which is the site of a Revolutionary War skirmish. A new site visitor center is currently under development with construction beginning towards the end of the year. This position works Monday Friday 8:30-5:00 with occasional night and weekend work. The site provides visitor services to approximately 17000 visitors annually.
Key job functions include staff and facility supervision historic preservation planning and implementing site presentations and programs overseeing site maintenance budget and financial management and marketing and publicity. Special events are conducted throughout the year including an annual demonstration of the original battle. Over the next two years this position will manage a grant project funding a structural investigation of the Alston House and subsequent preservation work. This position will also oversee the construction of a new site visitor center and permanent exhibit.Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

House in the Horseshoe was named for its location on a horseshoe bend in the Deep River. The house (ca. 1770) was owned by Philip Alston whose band of colonists seeking independence from Britain was attacked here in 1781 during the American Revolution by British loyalists led by David Fanning. Later four-term governor Benjamin Williams lived in the house which now features antiques of the colonial and Revolutionary War eras.

Veterans and National Guard Preference
Applicants seeking Veterans Preference must attach a DD Form 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty along with the state application.
Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach an NGB 23A (RPAS) along with the state application if they are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing.
Applicants who are former member of either the NC Army National Guard or the NC Air National Guard with honorable discharge and six years of creditable service must attach a copy of the DD 256 or NGB 22 along with the state application.
