Description:
Heartland AEA has a Substitute Shelter Care Teacher position available that will serve eligible individuals at the Newton Correctional Facility and the Iowa Correctional Institute for Women (in Mitchellville). This instructor is a licensed special education teacher who provides individualized instruction to incarcerated individuals with disabilities in accordance with state and federal special education regulations. This role is critical in supporting the academic behavioral and functional development of individuals eligible for special education services within a correctional setting. The instructor collaborates with the correctional education program team to assess individuals needs develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) monitor progress and adapt instruction to meet diverse learning profiles. This position requires a strong understanding of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) compliance exceptional classroom management skills and the ability to work effectively within the operational constraints and security protocols of a correctional facility.
Qualifications:
Qualifications for this position include being appropriately licensed by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners have a Special Education Endorsement:Instructional Strategist I or II (or equivalent) and have successful teaching experience in general and special education.
