Job Description
On-Call Interpreter
Do you speak English AND another language Are you looking for ways to use your language skills to make a difference in your community
The Burlington School District is seeking bilingual individuals in one or more of the following languages: Kirundi Swahili Spanish Nepali Somali or Maay Maay to serve as an on-call interpreter and or translator. This position supports Multilingual students and their families as well as school personnel to assist students in achieving success in the U.S. education system by providing interpretation or translation as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be fluent and literate in native language as well as English language in order to provide translation and interpreting services.
- Must be familiar with the US education system as well as education in the native culture.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and respectfully with students parents and the school community using strong cross cultural and interpersonal skills. Professional courteous behavior expected.
- Basic knowledge of computers is preferred but not required.
- Experience as a professional interpreter would be an asset but is not required.
