Job Description

Position:Behavior Support Technician

Location: Pathfinder Program

Employment:7.5 hrs per day work student days during the school year

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be a high school graduate or have GED
  • Must have strong desire to work with children in a caring manner
  • Ability to work effectively with staff and students

Salary: $20.42 - $22.43 starting per hour depending on experience

If bilingual (English/Spanish): $22.42 - $24.70 starting per hour depending on experience

JOB TITLE: Behavior Support Technician

REQUIREMENTS:

Education Level:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Post Secondary training in psychology education or a related field is desired

Certification/Licensure:

  • Drivers License
  • First Aid/CPR certificate desired

Experience Desired:

  • Previous work experience in a school therapeutic facility or childcare setting is desired

Other Requirements:

  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of basic reading and math skills

REPORTS TO: Teacher(s) Building Administrator and Director of Special Education

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of each employees position include (1) regular dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge skills and abilities to perform the identified work activities; and (3) the ability to perform the physical requirements on their specific job description.

Training

  • Because this is an advanced instructional support position background knowledge and experience working with students with disabilities is strongly preferred. The school district will provide training focused on evidence-based practices related to principles of applied behavior analysis and skills related to behavior reduction practices.

Basic:

  • Under the general direction of the classroom teacher and school administrator. Performs a variety of activities in support of special education programs for students with challenging behavioral needs. Abides by the guidelines established for paraeducators of the State of Nebraska and the School District..

Frequent:

  • Provides specialized support to students who present complex and challenging behaviors
  • Implements behavior support plans and interventions both in and outside the classroom as structured and monitored by the supervising teacher(s) for individual students.
  • Assists in conducting functional behavior assessments by gathering data observing student behavior and collaborating with the school team to identify patterns and inform the development of effective behavior support plans.
  • Collects and monitors various data in accordance with students IEPs behavior support plans and District procedures.
  • Supports crisis prevention and intervention using verbal de-escalation strategies and when necessary safely applying restraint and/or seclusion techniques in accordance with District procedures
  • Assists in monitoring and reporting of incidents involving restraint or seclusion
  • Collaborates with teachers and specialists during team meetings providing feedback and observations on student progress and behavioral patterns to help inform instructional and intervention decisions
  • Assists the supervising teacher/professional in the collection and preparation of instructional material and equipment.
  • Assists with the evaluation monitoring and supervision of students work.
  • Assists students in performing activities initiated by the supervising teacher.
  • Assists with various classroom clerical and daily organizational duties.
  • Attends required professional development activities and workshops for paraeducators including annual training in crisis response and intervention and principles of ABA.
  • Assists with the physical and health needs of students including but not limited to: feeding toileting transferring positioning and other special health and personal care needs when applicable.
  • Assists in the loading and unloading of students from vehicles as needed and supervises students while being transported by district vehicles as assigned.
  • Respects the confidentiality of information about students and communicates progress or concerns about students to parents or staff only with the authorization of the supervising teacher.
  • Exhibits a positive working relationship with students and staff.
  • Follows all rules and regulations relating to school and district policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher therapist and/or administrative staff.

Climatic Environment: Primary work environment is a heated /air-conditioned classroom/building and at times the work environment will include off-campus sites. (Certain classrooms/buildings may be air-conditioned)
