Elementary School Counselor - Long Term Substitute
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:We are seeking a long term substitute counselor to start inAugust 2025 through November 2025.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Elementary (K-8): Valid Counseling License from Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices or approval by Oregon Department of Education as a Child Development Specialist or working toward program completion
- Secondary (9-12): Valid Counseling License from Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices or working in Secondary Counseling program toward completion or LSW with interest in completing School Counseling program.
- Thorough knowledge of Oregons Framework for Comprehensive School Counseling Program Trauma Informed Practices Equity and Bias training and Restorative Justice programs.
- Knowledge of growth and developmental stages of children and adolescents.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently with staff students parents and stakeholder groups.
- Ability to use a computer and other technological equipment.
- Possess communication skills for small and large groups that make people feel welcome and valued. Ability to discern and provide important information families need from a place of caring and concern. Use communication skills to positively impact students and engage in culturally responsive practices at all times.
- Experience working with diverse cultures families impacted by trauma or poverty.
- Ability to establish and maintain good relationships and advocate for students and families at work and in the community.
- Ability to manage a wide variety of guidance information.
- Bilingual bicultural skills preferred.

SPECIFIC TRAINING/SKILLS:
- Laws and policies related to student rights and counselor responsibilities (e.g. for educational equity appropriate education for students with disabilities confidentiality privacy appropriate treatment of students reporting in situations related to possible child abuse.)
- Effective practices for colleagues to lead professional learning activities and to serve in other leadership roles.
- Student success equity and access by staying up-to-date in counseling theories and culturally responsive practices.
- Personal biases and access to resources to deepen his/he/their own understanding of cultural ethnic gender and learning differences to build stronger relationships and create more relevant learning experiences.
- Knowledge of legal and ethical rights and responsibilities.
- Knowledge of and adheres to school district and state policies.
- Culturally Responsive approaches to engage families from a variety of backgrounds.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide individual and group counseling focused on health and well being.
- Strive for equity and ensure students have access to supports needed for success in school.
- Collaborate with stakeholders including families local social service agencies and school staff in planning and facilitating a systemic approach to transitions from grade-to-grade and school to school.
- Deliver Social Emotional Learning curriculum to individual classes as well as school-wide.
- Coordinate Schoolwide PBIS Program.
- Member of various data teams such as attendance to determine how to support student success.
- Coordinate 504 services and monitor student progress intervening as necessary.
- Maintain and monitor intervention programs such as a check-in/out system.
- Communicate with parents and teachers regarding behavior and academic concerns.
- Participate as a team member on District Youth Services Team and IEP meetings as needed.
- Collaborate with stakeholders including school and district staff to ensure an effective school crisis and/or emergency plan is in place
- Provide intervention/support in crisis situations and collaborate with others when appropriate to address student needs.
- Serve as a member of a team or lead of student threat assessment sexual incident response and/or suicide screening.
- Serve as Student Services Team Coordinator.
- Develop and implement a referral process to specialists and outside agencies.
- Additional job responsibilities as assigned by the Principal and Assistant Principal
