The Centre for Operational and Research Excellence (CORE) is dedicated to developing and delivering solutions and services that empower the Institutes researchers to achieve high impact and high-quality research Senior Project Manager within our Academic Project Operations Group in CORE will focus on delivery of the CAPTIVATE project for our Renal and Metabolic Program a global platform trial sponsored by The George Institute that tests multiple treatments separately and in combination. The aim of the trial is to efficiently find the best treatment regimes which will slow kidney disease progression and this role will be part of a large team leading multiple components and managing a range of different internal and external stakeholders.
The Role
The Senior Project Manager (SPM) is a leadership role within APO and is responsible for two main focus areas:
- Leading Staff: The SPM provides mentorship and guidance to PMs and their teams assisting in developing project knowledge and improving their execution.
- Leading Projects: The SPM is responsible for the management of their allocated project/s ensuring they are adequately resourced managed efficiently achieve project objectives and are conducted within budgets and timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Delivery: Lead project team/s to deliver large and/or highly complex clinical trials with TGI and external stakeholders.
- Pre-Project Development and Support: Support the initiation of projects including grant budgets project proposals leading contract negotiations in collaboration with research teams.
- Team Leadership and Collaboration: Manage a team of project operations staff inspiring and guiding them in their roles. Provide project management guidance and technical expertise and manage people management issues within the team
- Continuous Improvement and Strategic Engagement: Drive improvements in project delivery participate in working groups contribute to training and engage in PO PM & Operations meetings.
- Global Engagement: As we are a global organisation engage with colleagues and stakeholders in other regions relative to the responsibilities of the role accommodating global time zones where required to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
Skills Knowledge and Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in a related science or healthcare discipline
- At least 5 years of experience managing complex drug intervention clinical trials preferably within an academic environment and in the global context.
- Excellent knowledge of research and project management principles ICH/GCP ethical and regulatory requirements and experience in managing NHMRC/MRFF budgets.
- Knowledge/experience of ethical and regulatory requirements for / conducting clinical trials in countries other than Australia.
- Proven project delivery management and leadership experience
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing organisational priorities and ambiguous environments.
- Ability to work independently as well as awareness of when to escalate issues
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
- Ability to travel
- Flexibility to work non-standard hours of work for collaboration and contact with global teams based on requirements of the position
