Job Description

Project Manager Transmission & Distribution

Location: Richmond VA

Position Type: Full-Time

Experience Level: 7 years

Position Overview

CARIAN is seeking a seasoned Project Manager to oversee the execution of electric transmission substation and distribution projects for a utility client. This role will be part of a hybrid delivery model supporting capital project lifecycles from planning through close-out. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills deep familiarity with utility operations and the ability to manage multiple projects in parallel.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end execution of capital projects across transmission substation and distribution scopes

  • Manage scope schedule budget reporting and risk for multiple active projects

  • Coordinate with internal client departments and external vendors for seamless delivery

  • Oversee contract administration project documentation and stakeholder communication

  • Conduct regular check-ins with field teams and escalate key risks or changes

  • Track key performance indicators and report project status to client leadership

  • Drive project planning execution readiness and adherence to safety and regulatory standards

  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of experience managing utility construction or engineering projects

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering Construction Management or related field

  • Experience coordinating across planning design procurement and construction functions

  • Proven success delivering multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects

  • Strong communication and leadership skills; comfortable liaising with clients and vendors

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management software

  • PMP Certification (Required)

  • Ability to visit client sites as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with electric utility capital delivery models and outage planning

  • Familiarity with permitting environmental and real estate aspects of T&D work
