This is a national role which requires a qualified lawyer with experience in construction law who is solutions-focused enthusiastic and capable of driving initiatives and taking ownership of projects. The ideal candidate will have a passion for innovation continuous improvement and the ability to manage varying levels of tasks.
You will need to be a self-starter who can take initiative in the management of the capture sharing and improvement of knowledge resources. The goal of a knowledge manager is to help stakeholders to work efficiently and provide high quality and up to date work outputs. The knowledge lawyer will also play a part in the whole of firm execution of the new Knowledge Management Strategy.
Purpose of the Role
This role is an opportunity to build relationships and bring your own ideas to drive improvements. An important element of the role is developing relationships and collaborating which can be very rewarding. You will not be tied to the billable hour and will have autonomy. The variety you will experience in your week will keep you motivated and busy but not so busy as to feel stressed. You will be able to achieve a good work/life balance. The role is well supported by a proactive partnership with dedicated knowledge partners. A collaborative group of knowledge colleagues across the firm will also be there to support you and exchange ideas and information.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Precedents: monitor for updates and manage interface between legal and precedents team
- Draft minor updates for precedents
- Consistency committee: manage project and engage with stakeholders
- Manage standard form contracts (including Australian Standards Contracts)
- Knowledge documents: elicit contributions and maintain our knowledge repository (including internal and external expert database and presentation database)
- Work with lawyers and consultants to establish efficient processes to capture key knowledge artefacts at all stages of an engagement
- Promote awareness of assess and capture key precedents and knowledge documents from client transactions
- Learning: graduate training bi-annual program. Manage speakers topics and updating content
- Continuing education: manage and mentor speakers with topics content and presentation for internal and external presentations
- Current awareness: monitor legislation and industry developments and prepare case law and general industry updates and publications
- National Knowledge: execute the national knowledge strategy and contribute to firm wide knowledge and learning projects
Knowledge Skills & Experience
- Qualified lawyer with 5 years of experience
- Solutions focused enthusiastic and capable of driving initiative and taking ownership of projects

- Ability to build and leverage on relationships internally and externally
- Ability to identify and make changes required to precedent documents resulting from legislative and common law changes
- Excellent stakeholder engagement persuasion and interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to prepare and present papers and presentations in a high performance environment
- Strong analytical diagnostic and innovative thinking skills
- Ability to build connections across teams and across differences to work collaboratively
- Strong project and time management skills and the ability to work on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
- Skilled (or ability to skill up) with technology and working knowledge of major legal applications including document management (iManage) client/matter systems SharePoint etc
- Familiarity with third-party legal research and business intelligence platforms
- Ability to work effectively with a broad range of legal and administrative teams at all levels a must
- Excellent attention to detail and drafting skills
- Highly self-motivated problem-solver able to deliver results in timely and organised manner
