Job Description

We are seeking a visionary and execution-oriented leader to serve as the Head of AIDA R&D Advanced AI & Data Ecosystem within our Digital AI Data & Analytics (AIDA) organization. This individual will lead the strategy design and operation of a modern scalable and secure AI and data infrastructure that underpins all phases of pharmaceutical R&D from target discovery to clinical development.

The ideal candidate is an experienced platform engineering leader with deep expertise in enterprise architecture cloud-native architecture data infrastructure and enabling scientific workflows at scale. You will partner closely with research clinical informatics and product teams to build a best-in-class R&D data and AI platform that accelerates innovation ensures data integrity and supports responsible AI deployment.


In this role you will integrate and incorporate knowledge of advanced theories and practices from multiple disciplines to drive innovation and continuous improvement in support of the R&D division. You will be accountable for creating an environment where continuous improvement and innovation are embedded in day-to-day operations ensuring that programs exist to grow expertise within and across our team. As a leader of leaders you will provide guidance and strategic direction to your team fostering a culture of excellence and driving the creation of solutions to highly complex multi-faceted and unique problems.

Collaboration and partnership will be key to this roles success. The colleague will report to the VP R&D AIDA and to ensure alignment with broader organizational strategies and resource optimization will build strong collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders including R&D business leaders Client Partners Digital leadership the R&D Creation Center and the AI Center of Excellence. Additionally external relationships are crucial for this roles success; this may include building relationships with technology vendors and industry experts.

Your decisions will have a long-term organizational impact across the R&D enterprise addressing emerging business issues and challenges while ensuring strategies and solutions align with the companys objectives. You will also serve as a strategic advisor on key organization-wide initiatives that may impact operational or functional excellence within the R&D division influencing senior leadership of Pfizer and the external environment.

Strategic Leadership

  • Define and execute the multi-year strategy for AI data and analytics platforms across R&D aligned with scientific and digital transformation goals.
  • Serve as a thought leader and trusted advisor to R&D executives translating scientific needs into platform capabilities.
  • Drive platform investment planning technology selection and architectural governance.

Organization Leadership

  • Build and lead a high-impact organization spanning platform engineering product management and operations.
  • Attract develop and retain top talent across technical and leadership roles.
  • Foster a culture of innovation collaboration and scientific impact.

Platform Vision & Delivery

  • Oversee the design and delivery of core platform capabilities including:
  • Scalable compute and storage infrastructure
  • Data integration and transformation pipelines
  • ML model lifecycle management
  • Secure data access and governance
  • Developer and scientist enablement tools (SDKs APIs self-service portals)
  • Ensure platforms are modular extensible and compliant with regulatory standards (e.g. GxP HIPAA FAIR).

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a key partner to data governance product and scientific computing leadership teams to ensure platforms are interoperable and aligned to FAIR data principles.
  • Act as a bridge between technology and science translating complex platform requirements into scalable engineering solutions.
  • Establish strong partnerships with cybersecurity privacy and regulatory functions to meet GxP and other compliance obligations.
  • Partner with data science bioinformatics translational science clinical and IT teams to ensure platform usability and adoption.
  • Align platform roadmaps with scientific workflows and R&D portfolio needs.
  • Represent the platform organization in governance forums and strategic initiatives.

Innovation and Talent Development

  • Foster a culture of innovation experimentation and continuous improvement in platform architecture and practices.
  • Attract mentor and grow engineering talent with a passion for enabling science through technology.
  • Stay ahead of emerging technologies in AI/ML infrastructure data engineering and cloud-native platforms.
  • Evaluate and pilot new tools and architectures to future-proof the platform ecosystem.
  • Champion open science interoperability and responsible AI practices.

Qualifications

  • 15 years of experience in software engineering cloud infrastructure or platform leadership with at least 5 years in management
  • Demonstrated experience building data and AI platforms at scale in a complex regulated or research-heavy environment
  • Deep knowledge of cloud-native architecture (e.g. AWS GCP Azure) Kubernetes data lake/lakehouse technologies and modern DevOps/MLOps tools
  • Proven success working in matrixed organizations and building trusted partnerships with science data and product teams
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Exposure to domains such as multi-omics real-world data or clinical informatics
  • Experience in the life sciences or pharmaceutical industry particularly in R&D or translational research
  • Familiarity with GxP HIPAA and regulatory requirements related to R&D data
  • Executive presence with the ability to lead and communicate across a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers develop and coach others oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $219800.00 to $366400.00. In addition this position is eligible for participation in Pfizers Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 25.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
