The University of Western Australia is a research-intensive institution with goals that include supporting influential research and the training of students and staff in the relevant skills. Its research and development infrastructure are key to supporting these goals. In that context the CMCA is the Universitys microscopy characterisation and analysis core facility. Its goal is to facilitate and provide research excellence through a focus on world-class facilities matched with expertise and a concept-to-publication user pathway to meet the characterisation requirements of researchers and industry through excellence in training measurement and analysis.
The centre comprises 30 academic research technical and administrative staff supporting an exceptionally diverse range of instrument platforms including electron microscopy and microanalysis secondary ion mass spectrometry scanning probe microscopy X-ray microscopy mass spectrometry nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy cytometry and optical microscopy. The CMCA operates on three main sites and supports research in all areas particularly in engineering science and health.
