POSITION TITLE:Behavior Specialist
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:Principal North Middle School
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
EMPLOYMENT TERM: 210 days annually - This position is grant funded and only guaranteed for the 2025-2026 school year.
JOB TYPE DESCRIPTION:
The Behavior Coach will serve as a key support to teachers staff and leadership by providing professional development in-classroom modeling and behavioral coaching strategies to improve classroom management and student engagement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Professional Development Creation & Coordination
- Design and deliver monthly PD focused on:
- De-escalation techniques
- Trauma-informed practices
- Positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS)
- Restorative practices
- Push-In Classroom Support & Monitoring - Weekly schedule includes:
- 8 push-ins per week across different grade levels
- Pre-scheduled coaching cycles with teachers (2-week cycles)
- Conduct real-time coaching co-teaching and classroom management modeling.
- Data Collection & Progress Monitoring - Work with counselors/admin to:
- Analyze referral data identify trends and adjust strategies
- Lead weekly review of Tier 2/Tier 3 behavior data
- Maintain documentation logs on students supported
- Staff & Student Support Plans
- Support teachers with writing classroom behavior plans
- Collaborate with support staff to follow-up on interventions
- Facilitate small-group or one-on-one sessions with students as needed
- Family Engagement & Communication
- Host quarterly Behavior Bootcamps for families
- Provide communication templates or scripts to teachers for behavior-related calls home
- Log all family-facing actions weekly Key Performance Expectations (Non-Negotiables)
- Minimum of 8 push-ins weekly (documented)
- Weekly data report shared with admin
- Minimum of 5 active coaching plans with teachers per month
- Behavior plans completed for all Tier 3 students Tools & Reporting
- Uses behavior management tracking software (e.g. Kickboard Educators Handbook)
- Maintains shared Behavior Support Log on school drive
- All plans schedules and data must be shared weekly with admin supervisor
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree Preferred in teaching Special Education Psychology or a related field
- Minimum of three years of experience working with students with special needs. (Preferred)
- Experience in a public school setting preferred
