Job Description

Nature & Scope:

Reporting to the Regional Chief Operating Officer the job holder is responsible to conduct structured research on selected countries and their key economic sectors to support CEAF Branch ’s strategic initiatives market analysis or financing decisions. The research will focus on macroeconomic trends sector-specific insights and growth opportunities.

Responsibilities:

Country-Level Research

  • Gather and analyze macroeconomic data (GDP inflation unemployment FDI trade balance).
  • Summarize political regulatory and socio-economic factors impacting business environments.
  • Identify major industries driving economic growth in each country.
  • Highlight risks (e.g. geopolitical currency fluctuations) and opportunities.

Sector-Specific Research

  • Research 3–5 key sectors per country (e.g. technology agriculture manufacturing energy).
  • Provide sector snapshots: market size growth trends key players and competitive landscape.
  • Analyze government policies incentives or barriers affecting sectors.
  • Summarize innovation trends technological adoption and sustainability practices.

Compliance Responsibilities

  • Understand and adhere to the Bank's AML Regulatory and Conduct Compliance policies and procedures notably.
    • Staff Handbook (has code of conduct provisions)
    • Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Counter Financing of Terrorism and Counter Proliferation Financing
    • Conflicts of Interest and Policies on Staff Involvement in External Engagements/Activities
    • Anti-Bribery & Corruption
    • Insider Trading Guidelines

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Bachelor’s degree and post graduate degree in Business Banking accounting Finance or other relevant field from a recognized University;
  • Entry-level graduates or junior professionals with 1 years of experience who are autonomous with technical concepts and independent with routine tasks but may need supervision for complex tasks.

  • No formal supervisory responsibility but is expected to provide guidance on-the job training and basic direction to junior colleagues while maintaining required integrity.
  • May begin to coordinate straightforward projects and activities.
  • May act as a buddy for junior or new team members.
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with colleagues at a similar level and (where relevant) external counterparts.
  • Is sensitive to requirements of varied audiences and adapts approach to explain technical information in a clear manner."
  • Applies knowledge judgement and previous experience to solve routine problems independently with the required flexibility. Recognises when to escalate issues and may make initial suggestions to solve non-routine problems.
  • Impacts own area and closely related teams through the quality and timeliness of own work and the accuracy of the information exchanged.
  • Has a good understanding of Afreximbank Group’s values and mission and some knowledge of Afreximbank Group’s products and services and how own area fits in the wider business.
  • Has some knowledge of the political economic and trade landscape in which Afreximbank Group operates and is able to comfortably talk about major historical and current affairs developments on the Continent and the African diaspora internally.
