Job Description

Job Title: Childrens Program Advocate
Department: Residential Services - Shelter
Reports To: Director of Residential Services
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Hours per week: 40 hours (Full-Time)
Salary Range: $13.50 - $15.00 / hr

Job Summary
The Childrens Program Advocate provides onsite assistance and educational support to children & K-12 students and drop-in day child watch for SafeNests confidential shelter residents. This position provides age-appropriate instruction and activities to ensure that a positive learning and socializing atmosphere is maintained.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide supervised drop-in child watch for children ages 0-17 in a defined area of the shelter.
  • Develop and encourage age-appropriate learning and socialization to help children learn necessary skills and concepts such as communication manners sharing etc.
  • Maintain a safe environment by monitoring children to ensure the health and safety of all individuals.
  • Plan and engage children in activities such as arts crafts and games. Create a monthly calendar of events.
  • Keep all toys seating and play areas organized and sterile; maintain the entire play areas cleanliness.
  • Serve as a positive role model maintaining professionalism and confidentiality for child and adult program participants and shelter residents.
  • Work closely with Title 1 CCSD SafeNest contact for school support attendance transportation registration and other needs.
  • Assist in connecting students with tutoring services as needed.
  • During child watch down times assist shelter front desk as needed and communicated by management.
  • Other duties as assigned by program leadership staff.
Skills and Qualifications
  • A valid drivers license.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • First Aid and CPR certified.
  • Decisiveness patience and stamina to chase after lift or carry children.
  • Ability to pass the Nevada Child Abuse and Neglect Registry background check.
  • Exceptional communication teaching and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong understanding of the stages of childhood development.
  • Attentiveness to the needs and safety of children.
  • Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must be able to work with children with possible behavioral or emotional challenges in a stimulating setting.
  • Believe in the empowerment of domestic violence survivors.

  • Must be able to lift 25lbs.
  • Must be able to sit and stand for 8 hours per day.

  • The office is located within a confidential shelter.
  • The noise level in the work environment varies.
