The Ocean Reef Community Association (ORCA) located in North Key Largo FL has a Full-Time position available for a Communications Officer/Dispatcher who will report directly to the Communications Supervisor. The Communications Officer/Dispatcher maintains the communication links within the Public Safety Department and conveys information to and from the public other community agencies outside law enforcement and public service agencies.
SPECIFIC DUTIES (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO)
- Appropriately monitors and relays information pertaining to the safety security and well-being of the Ocean Reef Community.
- Monitors all communications equipment and conducts checks at the beginning of their shift to ensure the equipment is in working order.
- Identifies communications equipment not working properly and notifies the Communications Sergeant or Corporal and the appropriate Monroe County Sheriffs Office Communications personnel if directed by 911 Communications Corporal or Sergeant of the situation.
- Receives all incoming radio/telephone communications dispatches appropriate response transfers calls to the appropriate personnel and takes messages and posts necessary information regarding each call in the appropriate computer program/system or other record keeping system.
- Dispatches officers to specialized assignments and acts as the communications link between the station and road personnel.
- Ensures that all community keys and prescriptions are appropriately signed out and issued maintains control of this data.
- Maintains and posts all necessary changes to the emergency contact lists for outside agencies.
- Controls the confidentiality of the information learned through the duties as a 911 Communications Officer/Dispatcher.
- Prepares letters reports key data special correspondence and documents and saves them in their designated location as per policy or as directed.
- Monitors cameras utilizing existing camera systems.
- Monitors alarms to include but not limited to waterways airport and Front Gate.
- Acts as the 911 Communications Officer during any emergency situation when the Public Safety Departments Emergency Operations Center is activated.
- Understands and adhere to the policies and procedures in the Communications Manual.
- Understands and adhere to the policies and procedures of Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD).
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong organizational and communication skills (written and oral).
- Ability to maintain courteous harmonious and effective working relationships within the Public Safety Department and with outside callers and visitors.
- Knowledge of Public Safety components in security fire and medical.
- Knowledge of standard office equipment computers data and word processing.
- The employee is frequently required to stand sit talk and/or listen.
- The employee is required to walk use hands and fingers handle or feel objects forms reports ID cards and directories.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will be required to reach with hands and arms recognize specific colors designs and logos.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- The employee must type a minimum of 30 wpm.
- Ability to use various tools including but not limited to computers radios telephones fax machine printer copy machine and various other kinds of electronic equipment.
- The employee is required to use various kinds of forms reports lists and directories.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience: Previous law enforcement/public safety communications experience is preferred but not required. Experience with Microsoft Office is preferred.
Licenses Certificates or Other:
- Must obtain the Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification within four (4) months of employment and must maintain an active certification throughout employment.
- Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certification must be obtained at earliest scheduled training.
