Title: Maintenance IV Locksmith
Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor Carpentry/Painting/Locks
Position Purpose: To keep the Districts facilities secure and operational by providing skilled locksmith services so that they present no problems or interruptions to the education program.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a Certified Master Locksmith Program by Associated Locksmiths of America or an equivalent experience and training which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Minimum of eight years experience as a locksmith within a commercial educational institutional medical industrial or facilities operations setting.
- Experience with large format multi-tiered master key systems development and implementation of.
- Experience with Falcon and Sargent master lock systems preferred.
- Must possess basic computer skills (Preferably in a PC Windows-based operating environment) and ability to apply skills in day-to-day operations.
- Experience with locksmith software i.e.; Code Source Master King Key Tracker.
- Ability to interpret implement and maintain pre-defined master key systems; ability to cut and issue keys re-key install and repair locks and hardware.
- Experience with record keeping for rekeys and key distribution.
- Experience and training in all aspects of locksmith services light carpentry weather stripping window installation/repair and door installation/repair. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as determined to be appropriate and acceptable.
- Knowledge of commercial/industrial practices processes Americans with Disability Act regulations life safety codes pertinent to doors and applicable code requirements related to the locksmith trade.
- Experience with hardware schedules for new or remodeling construction.
- Knowledge of standard practices tools and terminology in locksmith services light carpentry weather stripping window installation/repair door installation/repair and other assigned skill areas.
- Ability to read understand and apply technical information in equipment and facilities maintenance manuals technical bulletins blueprints and associated literature; must be able to interpret the technical language within the assigned skill areas.
- Ability to design or modify components to meet job requirements in the assigned skill areas.
- Must have or obtain a valid Kansas drivers license and possess a good driving record.
- Ability to work in varied weather and temperature conditions.
- Ability to work from heights.
- Ability to perform work independently according to prescribed standards and procedures with a minimum of supervision.

Performance Responsibilities:
- Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor Carpentry/Painting/Locks to receive each days assignments.
- Respond to work requests in a timely and courteous manner.
- Perform maintenance and repair tasks in accordance with appropriate standards and procedures.
- Maintain a large format multi-tiered master key system for the purpose of ensuring an efficient confidential and secure operation for the District.
- Use appropriate discretion and special knowledge of lock systems to preserve the integrity of the Districts master key system while meeting customer requests.
- Install structures and fixtures such as windows doors frames trim sweeps etc. using appropriate power tools hand tools etc.
- Install maintain troubleshoot and repair such items as door hardware closers strike plates hinges exit hardware key systems mortise locks cylindrical unit locks rim locks etc.
- Interchange core lock systems pin cores reload cylinders repair/replace panic hardware and ADA openers change lock combinations and repair/replace locks on desks file cabinets display cases lockers etc.
- Install service troubleshoot and repair various types of mechanical and electrical locking devices such as HES strikes and Von Durpin QEL using hand tools and special equipment.
- Disassemble locks such as door locks padlocks safe locks etc.; repair and replace worn tumblers springs and other parts.
- Cut new or duplicate keys using key cutting machine and stamp with identification.
- Maintain key duplication machines.
- Pick locks to open doors for which keys have been lost or broken; open safe locks by drilling.
- Assist with a variety of work assignments including such things as light carpentry weather stripping window installation/repair door installation/repair etc.
- Assist with development and carry out preventative maintenance program.
- Consult with independent contractors project managers engineers etc. on new construction and projects.
- Assist the Maintenance Supervisor Carpentry/Painting/Locks with issuing keys and maintaining all lock and key records for keys issued and returned.
- Follow the Districts system for the receipt and issuance of parts and supplies as well as maintaining recordkeeping and inventories.
- Ensure that all assigned vehicles machinery equipment tools and supplies are accounted for secured and used correctly.
- Attend appropriate training sessions meetings and classes as part of professional development.
- Accomplish assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
- Operate and care for equipment used in daily work assignments.
- Maintain accurate and complete time sheets.
- Respond to emergency situations as necessary during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate security concerns.
- Assist with snow removal as necessary including operating snow plows tractors etc.
- Demonstrate professional image through appearance language and work ethic.
- Require good attendance record for continuity of operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Term of Employment: Twelve (12) months
Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board policy on evaluation of Classified Personnel.
