In Kansas City Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies (FM&T) manages and operates the U.S. Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administrations (NNSA) Kansas City National Security state-of-the-art engineering manufacturing and sourcing facility produces a wide array of intricate components to deliver trusted national security products and government services primarily for the FM&Ts culture of integrity commitment and continuous improvement enables them to deliver responsive collaborative and innovative management and technology services and products that translate into cutting edge solutions to complex national security issues.

Summary

This position is responsible for a variety of intermediate to complex level technical activities. Uses advanced knowledge of engineering concepts processes and tools to complete and ensure compliance of various project subtasks. Gathers data conducts tests and experiments sets up and operates equipment builds prototype units and testing equipment. Maintains and calibrates standards and equipment and devises new testing methods.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sets up test equipment monitors and measures instruments. Performs testing on breadboard circuitry prototype units production units and electronic circuitry.
  • Support consists of both technical bench and field set-up deployment retrieval and repairs with travel to remote site areas as required.
  • Builds prototype units for testing and experimentation and makes samples for further analysis.
  • Conducts tests and experiments with new materials equipment and processes to develop data for specification call-out or to determine suitability of a material for particular applications.
  • Gathers and evaluates data for validity accuracy and completeness.
  • Locates and corrects malfunctions in product and testing equipment.
  • Performs post-mortem analyses to determine exact reasons for failure.
  • Performs chemical processing and mechanical evaluations as applicable.
  • Makes sketches and marks up drawings as needed to show changes as they occur.
  • Maintains appropriate primary and secondary metrology standards test laboratory equipment or control consoles and associated monitoring measuring and recording instruments.
  • Drafts calibrating and operating procedures based upon comprehensive knowledge of product and testing equipment.
  • Calibrates equipment instruments electrical/electronic standards and standards of mass force dimension and other phenomena during or after maintenance and on regularly scheduled calibration dates.
  • Records laboratory notes and other details as specified by engineering personnel.
  • Supports activities identified by Management/Engineering to maintain equipment in a reliable efficient manner.
  • Works with engineering to establish test techniques for new product during development and to resolve product or equipment problems and may install characterize and/or design equipment.
  • Improves and refines existing fixtures devices methods process steps or procedures implementing changes as necessary.
  • May provide technical direction and training to other technologists and hourly employees to include task or project lead duties.

You Must Have

  • 4 years relevant experience or 2 years experience in a related technical role plus 2-year technical degree or 4-year technical degree
  • Some positions within this classification may require unique electrical mechanical chemical processing and/or electronic skills and abilities.
  • Ability to travel as determined by the needs of the business.
  • Ability to work remote hybrid or on-site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • United States Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations)

We Value

  • Previous experience with supporting fabrication and inspection of non-production hardware and assemblies.
  • Previous experience in machining CNC programming assembly and inspecting complex parts.
  • Previous experience fabricating a variety of prototype parts and assemblies for development and demonstrator applications using advanced manufacturing techniques.
  • Exceptional teamwork skills demonstrated by a history of working efficiently within cross-functional teams.
