Job Summary:
The Crematorium Technician is responsible for the respectful and efficient operation of cremation services.
This includes the technical operation of cremators assisting with funeral services and maintaining a dignified and supportive environment for the bereaved.
The role requires high levels of attention to detail emotional sensitivity and a commitment to health safety and legal compliance in all aspects of crematorium operations.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
Operate cremators and associated equipment in accordance with legal and environmental standards.
Ensure all cremation procedures are carried out with dignity care and respect.
Prepare the chapel and surrounding areas for funeral services including setting up audio/visual systems.
Assist funeral directors clergy and families during services to ensure smooth operations.
Maintain accurate records in line with statutory requirements.
Carry out routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and facilities to ensure high standards of hygiene and functionality.
Monitor emissions and comply with environmental regulations and internal protocols.
Provide a calm and professional presence offering practical support to the bereaved when appropriate.
Report any faults or issues with equipment or the facility to the appropriate personnel promptly.
Skills/Experience:
Experience working in cremation cemetery or bereavement services is desirable.
Knowledge of cremation procedures regulations and environmental controls.
Comfortable working in a sensitive environment with bereaved families and the public.
Ability to follow strict procedures and maintain detailed records accurately.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Technically competent with the ability to operate cremators and related systems.
Commitment to always maintaining dignity and professionalism.
Ability to work as part of a team and follow schedules and instructions.
Willingness to undertake relevant training and certifications if not already held.
Additional Information:
Hours: 37 hours per week typically Monday to Friday (09:00 17:30).
Experience working in cremation, cemetery, or bereavement services is desirable. Knowledge of cremation procedures, regulations, and environmental controls. Comfortable working in a sensitive environment with bereaved families and the public. Ability to follow strict procedures and maintain detailed records accurately.
