***Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawaii may apply for Casual Hire positions which include administrative professional and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits provided to regular Board of Regents (BOR) and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave). Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Other Conditions: Casual Hire temporary appointment is expected to begin July 2025 or soon thereafter. Not to exceed 89 days.


Duties:

Under the general supervision of the Director of the Kipuka Native Hawaiian Student Center this position supports the development and implementation of Hawaiian language and cultural curriculum as part of the Kukulu Program. The position plays a key role in enhancing student engagement and academic success for Native Hawaiian returning transfer and currently enrolled students in Hawaiian language and culture courses.

  1. Plans develops and conducts culturally grounded workshops and supporting materials for Kipuka staff and student development initiatives.
  2. Encourages and supports the consistent and accurate use of Hawaiian language in program activities events and materials.
  3. Creates and facilitates workshops trainings and other culturally relevant engagement opportunities for students participating in the Kukulu Program.
  4. Provides cultural knowledge guidance and support to ensure the integrity of all Kukulu Program events and activities.
  5. Assists in the development of the academic year master schedule for Kukulu engagement events ensuring alignment with Native Hawaiian cultural values and educational goals.
  6. Performs other related duties as assigned to support the goals of the Kipuka Native Hawaiian Student Center and the Kukulu Program.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in any field from an accredited university.
  2. Proficiency in Hawaiian language.
  3. Experience in developing Hawaiian cultural curriculum.
  4. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  5. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Possession of a Masters degree in any field from an accredited university.
