This advert is open to current redeployment Suffolk County Council staff only

A great opportunity to join the Suffolk County Councils Directorate for Children and Young Peoples Services (CYP) in the capacity of an Area Support Adviser.

You will work as part of a small friendly team who have a key central role linked to the Local Authoritys statutory duty to ensure that young people successfully transition into post 16 learning and are offered support if they are not in education employment and training.

Your role and responsibilities

You will join a small and busy team which tracks and monitors the participation of young people in education employment and training. This will mainly include short telephone calls with young people and their families processing data returns and referring young people to frontline workers and third-party organisations for ongoing support.

You will use our bespoke Core database for all recordings but numerous other databases for gathering and sense checking information. You will work independently alongside other team members to ensure key CCIS deadlines are successfully met.

  • make contact with young people for a variety of reasons which include: ensuring that they have an offer of learning for the new academic year and following-up if they leave post 16 education prematurely
  • work with information from education providers and individuals so we can build up a picture of what our young people are doing once they leave compulsory education.
  • work with various data systems used across CYP to search for and cross reference information.

You will need

  • a personable and professional telephone manner and clear written English skills
  • a keen eye for detail
  • the ability to gather and impart information
  • experience of databases and the ability to record information thoroughly and accurately
  • an enquiring mind and be forensic in your approach to collating missing information and data
  • the ability to confidently use Excel Word and Outlook.

The team

You will be an integral member of a friendly team of 4 people involved in monitoring the education and work related participation of young people as once they have moved from compulsory education to post 16 learning employment or training .

The Participation Tracking Teams purpose is to contribute to our statutory responsibility to support track and report on the participation of young people in post 16 education employment and training. We also view this as a wider piece of work around helping young people develop positive aspirations towards adult life career goals and independent living as appropriate. This role will give you an excellent opportunity to expand your experience of working within a local authority whilst gaining an insight of the range of services the county council delivers to support young people. You will have the chance to develop skills and experience that will stand you in good stead for a range of roles in a modern business environment.
