Start your journey towards success! DPS HRs Safety Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Safety Administrative Specialistin Raleigh NC.

This is an INTERNAL POSTING open ONLY to current employees of the NC Department of Public Safety (DPS) and eligible RIF candidates. Temporary employees are eligible to apply.

We value our employees and are committed to providing flexibility in work schedules. This position qualifies for teleworking on a part-time basis as part of the State Telework Program.

The primary purpose of the Safety Administrative Specialist is to provide clerical and administrative support to the Safety Occupational and Environmental Health Office within DPS Human Resources. The position requires minimal supervision and sound judgment in decision making related to administrative actions. The position also advises employees and supervisors on human resources matters and oversees employee record keeping.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Handling a variety of administrative tasks including calendar management data entry file system maintenance meeting coordination and report creation.
  • Providing safety program support and ensuring compliance to include the following: managing safety documentation coordinating training communicating safety related information and assisting with incident investigations/inspections/audits to ensure a safe and compliant workplace.
  • Maintaining confidentiality when handling reports and investigations related to employee discipline and employment actions.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits including paid vacation paid sick leave paid holidays retirement and health insurance. About DPS HRs Safety Office:

The Safety Occupational and Environmental Health Office is tasked with researching various safety and health regulations to create policies and programs that ensure safe workplaces for employees visitors clients and juveniles. The office drafts these policies for review implements them through procedures and provide training and informational meetings to help divisions comply with regulations. It also conducts audits and inspections of sites equipment and employee conditions issuing reports to management to address any issues. The office manages emergency plans for safety during unforeseen events and acts as the main contact for North Carolina Emergency Management. It ensures accurate and timely reporting to regulatory agencies and prepares reports to update management on program effectiveness regarding occupational injuries and illnesses. The Safety Office also investigates serious accidents oversees compliance during inspections and responds to safety complaints from various stakeholders. It advises staff on safety regulations for equipment and training ensures that new facilities meet safety standards and assesses the effectiveness of occupational health programs and protocols for various health risks.

To qualify for this position applicants mustdemonstrateALL ofthe followingKSAs:

  • Experience coordinating meetings.

Management Preferences (Optional): These skills are not required but managers may choose to interview/select applicants who demonstrate Management Preferences.

  • Experience using Microsoft PowerPoint to create/design presentations.

  • Experience using Microsoft Word to create macros.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
