Primary Purpose of the Job
The University nurse is responsible for providing high-quality evidence-based nursing care to students faculty staff and the community. The nurse plays a key role in promoting wellness and supporting the overall health and safety of the university community.
Key Responsibilities
Triage
- Assessment of patients to identify their care needs.
- Develop written care plans based on patients needs monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
- Carry out hemodynamic monitoring to include vital signs neurological and fluid status labs and radiological evaluations.
- Document all assessment data investigation results care given discussions with the multidisciplinary team and family/patient interactions in an accurate comprehensive and timely manner.
Nursing Care
- Administer medication safely monitor patient responses to medication and report adverse reactions promptly.
- Dispose of clinical and non-clinical waste safely in the AmIU Medical Centre Guidelines on waste management.
- Preparing and assisting the medical officers in performing various procedures in the clinic.
- Maintain adequate airway management including oxygen therapy nebulization and suctioning.
- Perform pain assessment and initiate analgesia as per protocol.
- Promptly report both clinical and non-clinical unusual findings/incidents to the Medical Officer.
- Identify patient and family education needs and implement appropriate teaching.
- Adhere to infection control practices and other safety policies to provide a safe environment for patients and perform timely safety checks on restraints examination couches oxygen sources and other medical equipment in the clinic.
Administrative support
- Be accountable for judicious and efficient use of resources i.e. accurate and timely billing of clinic stock drugs and consumables.
- Care for equipment through proper cleaning and storage per-shift inventory checks timely reporting of non-functional equipment and follow-up with the In-Charge.
Reports
- Assist in compiling data and producing the monthly reports.
Medical Education
- Assist in planning and coordinating medical training programs and health-related information for staff.
Qualifications :
- Minimum: Diploma in Nursing (KRCHN) from a recognised training college.
- A valid nursing license to practice.
- Minimum 3 years of clinical experience.
- Be registered by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Effective communication with patients families and healthcare teams.
- Critical thinking and problem solving for quick decision-making.
- Patient education and advocacy.
- ICT literacy for documentation and communication.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team.
- Compassion and Empathy; Resilience; attention to detail; adaptability and Ethical integrity
