Position Summary
This is technical work conducting inservice training programs and assisting with training program development for the Juvenile Division of Family Court. An employee in this class is required to accumulate knowledge on various subject matters related to the operations of the Juvenile Division and Juvenile Probation Department of Family Court and be able to convey that knowledge in a clear cohesive and effective manner to appropriate staff.
A significant aspect of the work is devising effective means of motivating and instructing employees. Work is performed under the direction of the Juvenile Division Training Administrator and higher-level superiors. Assignments call for evaluative thinking and are performed in accordance with functional precedents practices and policies of the FJD and Family Court Division. Training programs are developed to aid employees and Managerial and Administrative staff in achieving their objectives.

Essential Functions
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Conducts orientation and basic probation officer training for new probation officer trainees.
- Conducts orientation and advanced training for newly promoted assistant supervisors and supervisors.
- Conducts in service training program for ongoing employee development.
- Conducts remedial training for identified staff.
- Assists in the development of departmental promotional examinations.
- Confers with intradepartmental officials regarding training needs within overall administrative objectives of the Juvenile Probation Department.
- Assists/coordinates in the development of training curriculum and course materials.
- Assists in production of audiovisual aids for use in training programs.
- Collects and analyzes information and conducts research relative to training staff development needs and facilities available.
- Provides supervisory and line personnel with appropriate training materials and guides for applying training within their respective supervisory areas.
- Designs lectures and workshops appropriate to existing needs of the Juvenile Division and Juvenile Probation Department.
- Coordinates and monitors student placements in conjunction with local graduate schools and colleges.
- Confers with Probation Officers and supervisors to evaluate effectiveness of training courses.
- Conducts courses in specific areas or serves as a conference leader.
- Prepares regular and special reports concerning the progress and effectiveness of specific training.
- Gives technical advice to appropriate personnel in planning scheduling and conducting training activities.
- Operates various audiovisual aids such as projectors television tapes recorders and other training equipment used in the training process.
- Manages a resource library of: Training Materials and scholarly works Local State and National Criminal/Juvenile Justice Research Facilities; College and University Graduate Study information and admissions requirements contact and membership information for professional organizations and associations.
- Manages and distributes information about relevant conferences seminars and trainings offered by professional organizations and associations.
- To participate in ongoing trainings on best practice and trends in probation work with juveniles and families.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
- Answers the telephone or may meet or greet callers.
- Provides general information pertaining to assigned function.
- Performs related work as required.

Competencies Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of inservice training principles methods and techniques.
- Ability to gather information on various subject matter areas and conduct training sessions to clearly and effectively communicate that knowledge to staff.
- Working knowledge of the principles of Balanced and Restorative Justice.
- Working knowledge of instruction methods training material preparation and personnel development principles.
- Some knowledge of current trends problems developments and theories in personnel development and training related to probation and juvenile justice.
- Ability to manage a fiscal training budget.
- Some knowledge of adult education methods inservice materials training manuals and visual media use to train persons of varying degree and/or types of intelligence education and experience.
- Some knowledge of training program administration basic principles methods and techniques.
- Understanding of cultural and ethnic diversity as it relates to juvenile justice.
- Ability to plan develop and conduct development and training programs in the probation field according to prescribed objectives.
- Ability to assist staff in determining training needs and developing appropriate training materials.
- Ability to recognize areas of personnel development and training needs.
- Ability to operate audiovisual aides and other equipment used in the training process.
- Ability to lead discussions and to instruct training and orientation classes.
- Ability to select and adapt available material and to prepare original material for training needs.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental officials city employees and others.

Qualifications :
- A bachelors degree from an accredited college or university and three to five years experience in probation casework.
- Equivalent combinations of training and experience providing the characteristics required to perform the essential functions of the class may substitute.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Successful completion of a criminal background investigation.
- Covid-19 Vaccination is recommended.
- Must work on site (not remote).
