Job Description

Nofence is a Norwegian scale up who has built the worlds first virtual fencing solution for livestock. As we aim to revolutionise livestock management we will need a top-notch UX Researcher to dive deep into the minds of farmers and their day to day lives with new innovative technologies. At Nofence weve built the worlds first virtual fencing solution for livestock and were just getting started. To bring user insight even closer to the heart of everything we do were now looking for a passionate UX Researcher to join our growing cross-functional teams.

With over 8000 customers in Norway and growing markets in the UK Spain and the US were scaling fast. To support smarter product development were now looking for a UX Researcher to join our Experience team in Norway.

This role is based in Oslo and involves regular travel to farms across the country and abroad. Youll work closely with product design software and hardware teams to uncover deep user insight and bring the realities of farm life into the heart of how we build.

About the role

Youll be responsible for understanding what farmers truly need. Not just through interviews or surveys but by joining them in their context observing how they work mapping the full journey of their interaction with our products and identifying gaps and opportunities for us to explore.

This is a strategic research role grounded in hands-on fieldwork. Youll help uncover what we dont yet know highlight friction points across farm operations and deliver clear practical insights that influence how we build. From collar setup to pasture planning and app troubleshooting youll capture the reality of our users routines and feed that directly into our product and design decisions.

The main responsibilities for this role will be:

About you

Youre passionate and interested. Youre a context translator a clear communicator and a collaborative problem solver. Youre comfortable in unpredictable environments and skilled at extracting clarity from complexity. Youre willing to travel spend time on farms and engage directly with users in their environment. You take pride in making research accessible and you know how to present insights clearly through impactful syntheses user journeys flows and visual mappings that teams can immediately use.

The right candidate is preferred to have the following qualifications:

- Relevant degree in HCI anthropology design UX ID or similar.

- 3 years of hands-on UX research experience with digital products (bonus if youve -worked on hardware or physical/digital ecosystems).

- Deep knowledge of user-centric design principles and UX methodologies.

- Strong communication skills: You make the complex simple and the invisible visible.

- Confident with tools like Maze Dovetail Hotjar Optimal Workshop and Figma or similar.

- Fluent in English (our company language) and Norwegian; bonus if you speak Spanish.

- Comfortable working in a fast growing and changing scale-up.

- Experience or passion for rural agricultural or field-based user research is a huge plus.

- A full EU/Norwegian driving license.

What Youll Be Doing

- Plan and conduct research using a range of methods. This includes interviews surveys usability testing and especially in-field visits to farms

- Observe and document end-to-end user journeys across both physical and digital touch-points

- Identify and prioritise user challenges distilling complexity into clear visual insights

- Lead research operations from recruitment through to synthesis and communication

- Share your findings in ways that are easy to absorb across the company. This may include journey maps service blueprints highlight reels or short summaries

- Work closely with UX designers product managers developers data scientists and support teams to ensure user needs are clearly represented

- Prototype and test early concepts to learn quickly and reduce risk

- Help the team ask better questions before building and support informed trade-offs

Humanity has tried everything from herding with dogs to walling the animals in with barbed wire electric and wooden fences but these are costly and time-consuming solutions and often in conflict with the local wildlife.
