Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of:

Experience working in and with middle and high schools strongly preferrred

Excellent analytical skills; experience with data collection

Strong organizational and time management skills

Strong oral and written communication skills

Experience preparing and delivering professional development to large and small groups

Good computer skills with a variety of programs and software specifically the ability to create word processing and desktop publishing documents spreadsheets and databases

2. Ability to:

Work independently with little direction

Be flexible and innovative

Be a team player and to promote positive public releations and have good interpersonal skills

3. Education and Experience:

A minimum of a Bachelors degree in student support services and/or college/career access with a certification in Counseling (or willingness to obtain certification) including but not limited to education mental health or other areas as well as with training/coursework in family counseling. A Masters degree is preferred and/or a degree in administration.

Reports to:Assistant Superintendent/Chief Academic Officer

BASIC FUNCTION:This position will be responsible for providing career counseling to students in Henry County Public Schools. The Director will provide support to teachers and students and assist students in their career planning. The Director of Guidance will conduct initial assessment of students college or career goals in relation to their current educational standing and assist them in developing individualized goals plans and next steps to achieve college or career readiness.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Counsel with students on college and career plans and provide career awareness and/or exploration opportunities at the middle and high school levels.
  2. Assist in developing individual graduation plans for all students with a focus on college and career readiness. Track student progress toward college and career readiness and plan interventions for students who are not on track to meet standards/benchmarks.
  3. Meet routinely with students to help them achieve their individual college and career goals (e.g. align aspirations with talents promote internships and administer student self-assessments).
  4. Collaborate with the school and staff in planning parent student and staff trainings that promote college and career readiness for all students.
  5. Work with the district in the collection and analysis of data to meet reporting and monitoring requirements.
  6. Attend meetings workshops trainings and conferences pertinent to college/career readiness.
  7. Demonstrate ability to perform duties cooperatively and collaboratively with fellow staff members.
  8. Provides student information to colleges and potential employers according to provisions set forth in the Henry County Board of Educations policy of student records.
  9. Administer assessments that are in alignment with College and Career Readiness standards.
  10. Schedules all students within areas of responsibility including dual credit making changes as needed and in collaboration with the school counselors
  11. Serve as the Building Assessment Coordinator.
  12. Oversee the daily functions of the counseling department and keep the principal updated on the needs and status of the counseling department.
  13. Assumes other duties as assigned by the Chief Academic Office (or) superintendent.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Days and salary to be established by the Board upon the recommendation of the superintendent.

EVALUATION:Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisisions of the Boards policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
