Job Description

Director of Math Grades 9-12

Description: As the instructional leader for the department the Director of Math Grades 9-12 shall lead the design innovation strategic planning budgeting and implementation of the Math curriculum and instruction at the high school. The Director of Math Grades 9-12 should have the knowledge and experience to provide high-quality math programming at the high school. The ideal candidate will be an experienced and licensed teacher and administrator in the respective discipline area who has demonstrated exemplary teaching and instructional leadership skills.

Working Time:

The Director of Math Grades 9-12 will be required to work 226 days exclusive of holidays. The length of the work day will be 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.


Salary:

The base salary for this position will be in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Everett Teachers Association Unit B.

Requirements:

  • A Masters degree from an accredited institution.
  • A graduate or an undergraduate major in Mathematics.
  • Five years or more of teaching experience.
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certification for Supervisor/Director and Mathematics (9-12)
  • Must possess the Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Administrators Endorsement.

  • Familiarity with an urban school district.
  • Previous leadership experience in leading a world language department.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities and multilingual learners.

Essential Duties:

  • Vet curricular formative assessment virtual platforms and teacher tools for effectiveness and culturally responsiveness for Math instruction in grades 9-12.
  • Analyze formative assessment data for grades 9-12 disaggregating and presenting to school leaders teachers and district leadership annually to drive department initiatives.
  • Supervise and evaluate department teachers in Grades 9-12 in collaboration with building leaders.
  • Coordinate and develop the Mathematics Curriculum and Program for the school system aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Direct the development evaluation revision and alignment of the Mathematics curriculum in grades 9-12.
  • Support students transition from grade 8 to high school including collaboration with K-8 school leaders and other district curriculum leaders.
  • Plan and coordinate summer assignments for all students including Advanced Placement courses and support curriculum development for summer and vacation credit recovery programs.
  • Support the administration of school-wide assessments including MCAS and Advanced Placement exams.
  • Support the analysis of formative and summative assessment data across the department to assist in targeting instruction to meet better the needs of all students including multilingual learners and students with disabilities.
  • Arrange for staff development workshops and meetings designed to revise and align curriculum and assessments and improve instruction.
  • Direct organize and coordinate the development of new and/or innovative district programs including programs supporting multilingual learners and students with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with special education and ELL leaders to ensure appropriate instructional programming and curriculum.
  • Confer with department members the Principal and teachers to develop cooperative plans and curriculum instruction to improve the instructional program and curriculum.
  • Confer with the classroom teachers and the Principal on school visits to improve the departments instructional practices and curriculum implementation.
  • Preview and evaluate all curriculum materials and supplies used in the department.
  • Hold department meetings and communicate regularly with department staff about the curriculum events and other staff and student opportunities.
  • Review and update teaching material and techniques and organize when necessary in-service workshops in the field.
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of all department equipment for each school in the District.
  • Arrange for substitute teachers as needed for department staff.
  • Support the recruitment hiring and retention of staff in the department in collaboration with building principals.
  • Represent the district in committees at the regional and state levels.
  • Prepare the budget for the department and oversee the departments expenditures.
  • Apply for applicable grants and other funding sources that support increasing opportunities for students families and staff.
  • Coordinate plan and promote district-wide activities including but not limited to annual arts events theater performances and concerts.
  • Coordinate and assist in the development of the district-wide events calendar.
  • Assist in assigning art teachers to take advantage of their skills and training.
  • Attend school programs productions and events as a representative of the program.
  • Support department teachers in using culturally responsive and collaborative practices to ensure that all families are welcome and can contribute to the effectiveness of the district classroom school and community.
  • Support the implementation of school-wide efforts in their department such as MyCAP and the Vision of a Graduate.
  • Establish strategic relationships with community organizations community members and businesses.
  • Remain current on instructional methods educational materials and technology for improving the teaching and learning of all students.
  • Perform such other duties and assume all other responsibilities that the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents may assign.
