Job Description

Assistant/Associate Professor of Oncology

About Fort Smith and the Arkansas River Valley
Fort Smith is a vibrant community of around 90000 with a low cost of living and ample recreational opportunities. Located in the beautiful Arkansas River Valley at the foothills of the Ozark mountains Fort Smith is nestled between the Ozark-St. Francis and Ouachita National Forests. The region provides hiking mountain biking rock climbing hang gliding whitewater rafting and camping all within a short drive. In addition the city supports a variety of cultural attractions including museums theaters an award-winning symphony and two historic entertainment districts.
JOB SUMMARY
The Arkansas Colleges of Health Education (ACHE) Research Institute Health and Wellness Center (RIHWC) is accepting applications for scientists or clinician scientists for a faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level in the Center for Oncology Research. The Center for Oncology Research is part of a new expansive multidisciplinary research center with state-of-the-art instrumentation generous new open concept lab space and a new vivarium with small animal MRI and CT-PET imaging. Applicants should have innovative research focused in areas such as tumor antigen discovery molecular mechanisms of cancer development and progression immunobiology of cancer or metabolomics of cancer. Applicants should be highly collaborative and be able to function as part of a multidisciplinary team. Excellence in research scholarship and teaching should be evident.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ability to develop and expand novel biomedical research.
Ability to teach osteopathic medical school courses relevant to the applicants research area.
Ability to mentor students postdoctoral associates and junior faculty.
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Oncology the ACHE Vice President of Research or their designee.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Education and Experience
MD DO PhD DO/PhD or MD PhD
Three years postdoctoral experience for the Assistant Professor level.
Track record of external funding submissions and scientific accomplishments for the Assistant Professor level.
Track record of external funding and scientific accomplishments for the Associate Professor level.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of an MD DO PhD DO/PhD or MD/PhD in the field of biomedical sciences.
Experience in teaching graduate and medical students.
Minimum of three years of post-doctoral experience.
Continuous publication record in peer-reviewed journals with significant first or lead author designation.
Preferred Qualifications
Track record of successful extramural funding
Established national or international reputation for Associate Professor level.
Scientific expertise in one or more of the following areas: experimental therapeutic development cancer biomarkers proteomics and immunology

May be exposed to short intermittent and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies to include but not limited to pens pencils calculators computer keyboards telephone etc.
May be required to transport oneself to other campus offices conference rooms and on occasion to off-campus sites to attend meetings conferences workshops seminars etc.
May require significant travel or work away from campus.
Requires attendance at events representing ACHE both within as well as outside of the college setting.
Frequently required to work at a desk conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
Frequently required to see for purposes of reading matter.
Frequently required to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
Occasionally required to lift items in a normal office environment.
Frequently required to operate office and presentation equipment.
