GENERAL PURPOSE
This position makes minor and major mechanical repairs to gasoline and diesel powered automotive heavy and light construction and other power-driven equipment. Receives general supervision from the Shop Supervisor and EVT Mechanic.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Inspect diagnose and locate mechanical difficulties on city automobiles trucks and a variety of diesel and gasoline powered maintenance and construction equipment.
- Diagnose maintain and repair electrical systems components ignition systems computers alternators high voltage power generators starters and batteries.
- Diagnose maintain repair and recondition hydraulic systems and high-pressure water systems including pumps valves rams hoses and motors.
- Diagnose maintain and repair high pressure air systems including rebuilding pumps valves cylinders and hoses.
- Diagnose and repair front and rear drive axles drive train components belts gears chain drives and propeller shafts.
- Replace or repair faulty parts including wheel bearings clutches oil seals shock absorbers exhaust systems steering mechanisms and related parts and equipment.
- Overhaul repair and adjust engines transmissions differentials and clutches.
- Tune up engines by replacing ignition parts throttle body and port fuel injection systems and propane fuel systems.
- Repair and replace components such as generators distributors relays lights switches and high voltage light systems.
- Repair adjust and replace brake systems including wheel cylinders master cylinders disc pads machine drums and rotors hydraulic and air brakes.
- Repair chain saws weed eaters trimmers blowers edgers and pressure washers.
- Maintain and repair shop equipment including hoists grinders welders compressors steam cleaners and presses.
- Assist other mechanics in the performance of mechanical repairs as required.
- Request parts for repair.
- Coordinate repairs with outside contractors.
- May perform welder functions.
- Maintain work time and material records.
- Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the city.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Employee is required to work as a team and frequently meet with co-workers and supervisors; ; and employee is required to use on-site equipment.
- Perform other related duties as required/assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- At least three years of journey level vehicle and equipment maintenance experience including the maintenance of both diesel- and gas-powered equipment.
- Experience with heavy trucks and heavy construction equipment is preferred.
- Some welding experience is desired.
- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of or ability to obtain within 120 Days a Utah State Class A CDL.
- Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate valid inspection and Weber County emission testing license from the State of Utah.
- Must have a complete set of hand tools including inch driver with both SAE and metric; tools must be stored in a roll away adequate to provide mobility and security within and out of the shop.
- Employee will be required to complete NIMS IS100 and IS700 within three months of hire.
- Ability to obtain TSA Clearance at The Ogden Airport.
- Forklift Certified within 30 days of hire.
