Job Description

Position Summary

The Network Administrator plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity security and functionality of the Citys computer network. This position involves planning implementing and managing network infrastructure; resolving network issues; and providing technical support to end users.

The role also focuses on network security and performance optimization. Responsibilities include implementing and enforcing security policies monitoring performance resolving complex technical issues and ensuring a high level of network availability and reliability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install maintain and troubleshoot firewalls and access list security.
  • Install maintain and troubleshoot switches and routers according to City standards.
  • Oversee network security including the prevention investigation and remediation of security threats.
  • Oversee the installation and support of the Citys fiber infrastructure.
  • Install maintain and troubleshoot wireless WiFi devices and controllers.
  • Administer VMware.
  • DHCP and DNS administration.
  • Assist in the administration of Windows servers and SQL server.
  • Administer VPN and multi-factor authentication.
  • Collaborate with LOGIS on hosted solutions including servers storage and backups.
  • Assist with policy development and the coordination of cybersecurity awareness training.
  • Assist technology division with any other technology duties as needed.
  • Work flexible hours to attend evening weekend meetings and events as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Education

Associatedegree incomputer information systems or closely related field; and

Experience

Six (6)years ofexperience including firewall experience


Licenses/Certifications

  • Valid drivers license

  • BCA Certificationwithin six months of hire


Equivalency

An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.


Equivalencies may include:
  • No degree and 8 years of experience including firewall experience.
  • Bachelors degree in computer information systems or closely related field; and 4 years of experience including firewall experience.
  • Masters degree in computer information systems or closely related field; and 2 years of experience including firewall experience.

Knowledge Skillsand Abilities

  • Experience in:

    • network administration including servers storage firewalls switches routersVPNMFAand wireless infrastructure;

    • network security and remediation processes;

    • Microsoft environment including 365 administration desktop operating systems server operating systems SQL server Active Directory and Exchange DHCP and DNS;

    • VMWare;

    • web and email filtering;

    • project management.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs and applications.

  • Ability to:

    • establish effective working relationships with LOGIS and other outside parties;

    • assist in long range planning in reviewing and setting policy and procedures for the City;

    • coordinate projects and assist with strategic planning;

    • accurately comprehend interpret analyze and explain complex information;

    • analyze problems utilize resources; identify solutions; develop and implement recommendations/proposals;

    • exercise sound judgment to objectively define investigate and resolve problems/conflicts;

    • communicate clearly concisely and effectively both in verbal and written formats.


Desired Qualifications

  • MicrosoftMCSE and Cisco CCNACertifications.

  • Experience in formal project management.

  • Previousexperience working with diversepopulations.

  • Fluency in Spanish Hmong Russian Somali Lao or Vietnamese language(s).

  • Core business hours are set by departments based on operational needs. Alternative schedules can bearranged butmustcomply withthe Citys Alternative Work Arrangement policy.

  • Full-time exempt non-union position subject to a flexible schedule that includes a standard eight-hour work day (8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.); and includes occasional evening and weekend hours. Position participates in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule.

  • Office environment; exposure to computer screens; working closely with others frequent interruptions.

  • Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 10to 50 pounds regularly/occasionally.

  • As a technology-heavy position this position can be conducted remotely up to two days a week. Remote employees will need to confirm they have access to:

    • A stable internet connection
    • An ergonomically appropriate workspace
