About the Role

Have you ever thought about building a career in the water industry If you are compliance driven enjoy working in the outdoors and eager to put your technical skills to use the Water Management Officer could be the perfect role for you!

The Water Management Officer will serve as the interface between Southern Rural Water license holders and the community ensuring compliance with the Water Act 1989 and promoting sustainable water use.

This role will be responsible in navigating seasonal challenges customer demands and ensuring water availability through using a variety of compliance and enforcement tools to guarantee fair and equitable management of a public resource.

This role will be based in the Mitcham or Traralgon Office but willinvolve working across diverse locations from Cranbourne to Drouin encompassing Poowong to the south and Nayook to the north and all areas in between.

As the Water Management Officer you will adopt a compassionate yet fair approach applying SRW policies and directives firmly to maintain effective outcomes.

As the Water Management Officer some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Inspect and report on water use and infrastructure relating to licensed activities.
  • Undertake meter reading in a timely accurate and efficient manner liaising with customers as required.
  • Within delegated authority manage unregulated water systems including rivers and streams.
  • Implement actions outlined in Groundwater and Rivers operations and compliance plans.
  • Interpret and apply relevant sections of the Water Act 1989 to meet SRW compliance objectives.

About you

The successful candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate some of the desired experience and abilities below:

  • Ability to work autonomously and with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal skills including the ability to compile clear accurate and detailed reports.
  • Ability to interpret and apply sections of the Water Act 1989.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and resolve customer and public complaints on alleged unauthorised activities.
  • Demonstrated capacity to plan schedule and prioritise activities.
