About Portledge School:
Portledge School was founded in 1965 and is located on the beautiful North Shore of Long Island. Approximately fifty minutes from NYC by train Portledge is nestled on a pastoral 63-acre tree-lined campus that is known for its cherry blossoms in spring. Enrolling approximately 515 students in grades PN-12 Portledge offers a competitive college preparatory program in a warm inclusive community. Portledge School is seeking an experienced and mission-aligned Varsity Boys Basketball Coach to lead its Upper School basketball program. The coach will be responsible for developing a competitive inclusive and values-based team that reflects Portledges Mission and Pillars: Kindness Purpose Honor and Respect. This role requires the ability to mentor student-athletes of varied skill levels communicate effectively with stakeholders and represent the school with integrity within the PSAA and NYSAIS leagues.
Develop and implement a comprehensive training development and game strategy that supports student-athletes of diverse skill levels.
Create a positive disciplined and inclusive team culture aligned with Portledges Mission Pillars and NYSAIS accreditation standards.
Plan and lead structured practices team meetings and competitive game preparation.
Provide meaningful mentorship to student-athletes fostering growth both on and off the court.
Attract identify and evaluate prospective qualified student athletes student-athletes who are mission-aligned and may also be prospective students.
Communicate consistently with players families colleagues and school leadership regarding expectations schedules and progress.
Collaborate with the Athletics Department to maintain equipment uniforms and scheduling.
Ensure compliance with all PSAA NYSAIS and NFHS regulations.
Travel with the team to away games and tournaments; attend all practices and team events.
Utilize game and practice film (e.g. Hudl) for performance analysis reflection and strategy development.
Previous coaching experience preferably at the Varsity level.
Strong understanding of basketball fundamentals and team-building strategies.
Ability to inspire and connect with student-athletes of varying skill levels.
Excellent communication collaboration and organizational skills.
High level of integrity and professionalism in representing the school and athletic program.
Bachelors degree preferred (in education sports management or a related field).
Availability for evening and weekend commitments including travel for away games.
Experience with video analysis tools (e.g. Hudl) is a plus.

Season:
Practice will start approximately around November 1 2025 and end approximately around March 15 2026.
