40 Hours Flexible schedule required to meet department needs to include possible evenings and weekends.This is a grant funded position.

Position Summary

The Dual Credit Outreach and Advising Specialist will be the primary contact for dual credit student advising for College and Career Readiness programs. This role primarily functions within the partner high schools. The specialist will collaborate with high school counselors across multiple school districts and alongside the colleges Academic and Student Affairs departments and the University Center at MCC to advise and educate students about dual credit course selection guided pathways transfer planning and transitioning to college etc. The position supports college enrollment efforts by providing dual credit student advising at high school visits and events orientation programming and during office hours. This position will have office space at MCC but will spend most working hours visiting and advising at local high schools.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide guided academic pathways coaching for dual credit students: assist students with questions regarding course selection and transferability and assist with interpretation of placement test scores.
  • Inform students about campus resources available to dual credit students. Refer students to available resources.
  • Plan and deliver presentations to students and families at district high schools college fairs and on campus events to support and promote dual credit.
  • Hold weekly office hours to answer questions from students counselors and families.
  • Provide outreach and support to high school counselors relative to college advising dual credit course selection and student support.
  • Work alongside the Coordinators of P-20 Educational Partnerships to ensure high school counselors are informed about MCC dual credit curriculum pathways opportunities and dual credit policy and procedures.
  • Collaborate across various college departments including working with MCC faculty to enhance dual credit student advising and recruitment.
  • Create a structure and plan for advising students across multiple districts.
  • Partner with MCCs Advising Center to ensure familiarity with the Colleges advising practices and procedures to include procedures for composing dual credit advising session notes in students college records.
  • Coordinate College in High School dual credit orientations.
  • Assist high schools with the application process for dual credit and application for students transitioning to MCC after high school graduation.
  • Assist the College and Career Readiness department and University Center at MCC with administrative duties including recruitment events for the UC at MCC.
  • Assist with dual credit registration related duties
  • Provide advising and orientation assistance to non-dual credit students in collaboration with MCCs Advising Center to support MCCs peak enrollment times.
  • Attend scheduled evening and weekend events; be available to travel within the community college district.
  • Track and submit reports to the CCR Director of the number of students served and outcomes related to advising and recruitment efforts.
  • Acquire expertise of the college catalog college programs and college policies and procedures.
  • Maintain familiarity with school districts course offerings and districts policies and procedures for dual credit students.
  • Remain current on advising best practices statewide and national P-20 initiatives and the IL Dual Credit Quality Act.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Valid Illinois drivers license or ability to travel frequently between MCC and high schools
  • Two (2) years of experience in higher education or a high school environment.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in higher education academic advising counseling or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Experience working with undecided or exploring students.
  • Verbal and written fluency in Spanish preferred.
